Beauty news: Dyson supercharges its hair tool offering yet again

Launched in New Zealand six years ago, when the Dyson Airwrap styler landed many of us wondered how we ever lived without it. A tool engineered to create voluminous curls, natural waves and smooth blow dries without extreme heat, it delivers near-salon worthy blow waves without needing to leave the comfort of your own bathroom. Instantly obsessed? You bet, and I still have my original Airwrap to show for it.
Fast forward to 2022 and the world’s most awarded styling tool was radically redesigned, bringing new and reengineered attachments powered by enhanced Coanda airflow. Describing themselves as “relentlessly dissatisfied”, the team of Dyson engineers challenged their own design to miniaturise and multiply the Coanda effect, pioneering a personalisable styling tool to deliver a range of styles for different hair types, without extreme heat.
Never ones to rest on their laurels, now the team has unveiled the Airwrap 3.0 in the form of the new Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x multi-styler and dryer, powered by Dyson’s fastest and most powerful hair care motor, the Hyperdymium. The supercharged motor delivers twice the air pressure to wrap hair more easily, dries as fast as a full performance hair dryer, and creates sleek, straight looks, and the new tool offers 6-in-1 versatility to reveal a world of styling possibilities: dry, curl, wave, straighten, smooth and volumise, with no heat damage.

In addition to the above, the tool has new Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) enabled attachments that automatically adjust to your styling needs, and deliver optimal results for all hair types, and when connected to the MyDyson app, you can enjoy effortless curling with one-touch i.d. curl™ technology, a curling sequence customised to the user. How amazing is that? But wait, there’s more!
Fuelled by relentless iteration, Dyson has also made the Airwrap2x™ smaller and lighter in hand for improved manoeuvrability and control, which is a huge deal for those like me with pain issues and physical limitations. The wire powering the Hyperdymium™2 motor is as thin as a strand of the human hair it’s designed to care for — measuring just 90 microns, it's an example of precision engineering and allows the team to miniaturise this powerful technology to the extent that it now comfortably sits in the palm of your hand.

Eight styling attachments have been engineered for the Airwrap2x™ multi-styler, and in New Zealand, the Straight+Wavy set is available and comes with six attachments in a Dyson-designed presentation case. The attachments on offer include three curling barrels with cool tip technology (a must!), an anti-snag loop brush, a round volumising brush, Wave+Curl diffuser and more.
It’s safe to say the Dyson technology often leaves me a little blinded by science, but I am yet to meet a Dyson creation I haven’t loved. Full disclosure: I haven’t personally used this newbie myself, but from what I’ve heard it’s winner!

The Dyson Airwrap2x™ multi-styler and dryer is available in Ceramic Pink and Jasper Plum colourways for RRP $1,049. To find out more and grab one for yourself, visit Dyson.co.nz..
