Love it: Estée Lauder Double Wear Waterproof All Day Extreme Wear Concealer

With my heritage, dark under eye circles have always been an issue. Even as a child I had them, and years of trying to conceal them as I got older made me quite the connoisseur when it came to concealer. I hit a certain age however when concealers with serious coverage settled all too quickly into the fine lines around my eyes, so I pretty much stopped using them for that purpose. I’d rather look tired than old, to put it mildly!
Having said that, the days I have been doing of late need a long wear concealer to cover up the inevitable stresses and strains, and I think I have finally found a wee marvel that means I can have it all.
It comes in the form of Estée Lauder’s new Double Wear Waterproof All Day Extreme Wear Concealer, the latest addition to the much-applauded Double Wear Collection. Waterproof, sweat and humidity resistant, it is a liquid formula that stays in place and provides comfortable 24-hour wear, while looking insanely natural with a soft matte finish.
It instantly helps cover dark circles and blemishes (not my problem but the problem of many), while working to boost your skin’s natural moisture no matter what the day brings – i.e. an intense gym workout, a swim at the beach or a long day in the office. How? A unique blend of polymers forms a flexible water-resistant veil that moves with the skin to smoothly mask imperfections without creasing or caking. Amazing? You bet. This baby had me at first wear!
Available in shades for pretty much every skin tone, it has Lauder’s advanced IntuiTone Technology to guarantee a natural shade match. It also feels like nothing on the skin despite its full coverage properties, and I can see myself going through many a tube of the stuff.
For those that like facts, the waterproof, extreme long-wear concealer features:
* Resist Polymers – a water-resistant polymer blend that creates a protective, breathable transfer-resistant film to lock concealer in place and prevent creasing, caking, streaking and fading.
* IntuiTone Technology (patent pending) – a proprietary pigment technology consisting of ultra-fine pigments and optics fused together to give the formula the power to conceal, while embracing natural undertones for an ideal, seamless color match that dynamically reflects the light.
* Hyaluronic Acid – a powerful hydrator to instantly moisturise skin for a fresh and youthful look
It is currently available in six shades (in New Zealand, 11 internationally) and is in store now. So what are you waiting for?

The annual Go Green Expo is always a great day out and a chance to check out lots of the newest innovations in the areas of health, wellness and beauty – the number of new discoveries you can make there is seriously a revelation. Apparently this year the expo will be bigger than ever before, with the number of eco-conscious Kiwi brands increasing to over 160.

With this rapid change in attitude, everyday Kiwis are now more aware of their lifestyle choices and the impacts it has on their health, says Go Green Expo CEO, Damien Hochberg.
“Over the years sustainability has become more and more mainstream,” he says. “Three quarters of New Zealanders are more conscious of the impact their environment has on their health, the dangers of certain modern pharmaceuticals and processed foods.”
New Zealand’s largest organic, natural, sustainable, green living show, it will be held at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds on the 16th and 17th of April. What a steal: the Advanced Sonic Cleansing Brush

When the now-legendary Clarisonic first entered the beauty market the buzz was almost deafening - and despite a pretty big price tag units just flew out the door. It wasn’t available in New Zealand for quite a long time, and I tried one overseas but could never really justify the outlay - and consequently never bought one home.
I had been obsessing about getting a Clarisonic Mia for some time when I was invited to the brand’s “official” launch into the New Zealand market in 2014. I hadn’t previously had the opportunity to give one a whirl but always heard rave reviews from therapists and make up artists in particular i.e. people who study skin for a living. It was great news therefore to hear that they had arrived in the country along with the original Clarisonic Plus Sonic Skin Cleansing Brush (RRP $335), which can be customised with three different speeds for facial cleansing, a three-minute body setting with two distinct modes and unique body brush head to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. A little more on the compact side, the Clarisonic Mia 2 RRP $225) is the convenient choice for beautiful skin on the go as it’s small enough for travel and light enough to throw in your bag en route to the gym. Utilising the same Sonic Method as the Plus, Mia 2 comes equipped with two speeds, a one minute pulsing T-Timer and portable travel-friendly case. Both are suitable for even the most sensitive skin types, and the whole shebang truly leaves me with skin like velvet – even the day after!
But back to business. If you’ve been hankering for a Clarisonic too but can’t justify the high price for it, then the arrival in New Zealand of the Advanced Sonic Cleansing Brush is most excellent news - it’s the ideal way to see if brush cleansing system is right for your skin, at about a half (or less) of the price of a Clarisonic!
The advanced cleansing brush features technology that harnesses a patented range of sonic frequency, working with the skin's natural elasticity to beautiful transform skin's texture and appearance. Sonic cleansing removes makeup, pollutants and dirt more effectively than manual cleansing, and its sonic action helps removes impurities from pores so that treatment serums, and moisturisers are more effective.
There are two types of cleansing brush technology - sonic and rotational. Sonic technology cleanses with vibration and does not scratch the skin or damage its natural elasticity. Cheaper rotational technology units can stretch and damage the skin and scratch excessively, to which I say “hell no” and “why bother?” The Advanced Sonic Cleansing Brush has only one gentle cleansing head and two gentle cleansing intensity levels - very gentle and gentle. Units with higher intensity levels are likely to damage skin elasticity, scratch the skin and overly dry it.
The Advanced Sonic Cleansing Brush is waterproof and safe to use in the shower or bath, just charge her up, liberally apply your cleanser of choice and get to it. Press the on/off button once or twice to select your setting then gently move the brush using a small circular motion. The Advanced Sonic Cleanser gives a little buzz at 20, 40 and 50 seconds and switches off at 60 seconds. Too easy!
For best results, replace your brush head every 3-4 months - replacement heads are only $10.35, the entire unit just a little over $100! A veritable “steal” if ever there was one!

Beauty news: L’Oréal Professionnel unveils Autumn/Winter 16 inspo

On days like today there is no doubt that autumn is here, soon to be followed by the Great Winter Snuggle Down. I actually love the cooler months in a beauty sense, with new cuts and colours lending exciting possibilities once sun damaged ends are chopped off and winter collections make an entrance.
L’Oréal Professionnel has just unveiled its Autumn./Winter 16 It Looks trend collection, and this year it is a beauty. This is in no small part due to their choice of faces, with Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper Vintage blog fame and Joséphine de La Baume lending their beauty, style and tresses to the latest campaign.
Putting themselves in the hands of hairstyling and colour professionals, they have taken the plunge to transform their look by adopting a variety of styles. These go shoulder to shoulder with the trendiest fashion accessories – the messy braid, glamorous waves, baby hair and the ‘wob’ (wavy lob, for want of a better description!).
As one of the most influential bloggers in the world with her famous Gary Pepper blog, Warne has collaborated with prestigious names such as Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Roland Mouret.  In the hands of celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight, her hair has been transformed into three looks for A/W16 that optimise its depth and shine; a modern ‘20s bob, the aforementioned wob and wet look. L’Oréal Professionnel’s master of colour Frédéric Mennetrier experimented with Nicole’s dark hair using L’Oréal Professionnel Majirel Vibrant in Violet - almost like an accessory.
Actress singer and model, Joséphine de La Baume is an accomplished woman, and most definitely major inspo fodder with her striking strawberry blonde locks. Sam McKnight created three looks for her: fresh and natural wild copper contouring, ultra-glamorous Hollywood Waves and a messy braid.
Frédéric Mennetrier worked with L’Oréal Professionnel Majirel Vibrant to add the copper shade and lighten sections around the hairline to enhance Joséphine’s skin tone. The technique makes it possible to sculpt the cheekbones, give depth to her curls and add texture to her mane of hair.
“Joséphine’s fresh and natural locks are so versatile and can be worn on all face shapes. The look is very low maintenance and easy to achieve also. Using L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Wild Stylers Next Day Hair (RRP$34.00), spritz into the hair as you run curling tongs through the lengths to give you texture,” says Olivia Noble of Auckland salon, Protege Hair Design.
“The wob worn by Nicole is also versatile as it is still long enough to tie up, pull to the side in a twist or coiffed towards the front. The style does suit those with oval and heart face shapes and fine to medium hair. The rich chocolate colour with a subtle violet hue definitely gives the hair a healthy looking shine. To achieve the softness in the front, apply L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Pli (RRP$34.00), curl the front sections using curling tong, then brush through using a large round brush.”
The key looks reflect the Parisian heritage of L’Oréal Professionnel, showcasing the global colour house as a trendsetter in the hairdressing industry. Feeling inspired?

All about: Davines More Inside This Is A Dry Texturizer

It's nothing new to rave about dry shampoos and texturizing sprays and the like – they are a fixture in pretty much every bathroom cabinet, and with good reason. I’ve long been a heavy user of dry shampoo and hair dusts and powders, mainly because I don’t like washing my own hair (First World Problems, oui?) and also because I have a fringe that necessitates frequent re-booting. I got to the gym six days a week and they are a godsend for a greasy fringe, perhaps the perfect product.
One which has long held a special place in my heart is Italian conscious haircare brand Davines’ first foray into the hair powder arena, known as This Is A Texturizing Dust. It is part of their beautiful More Inside range, which comes from the salon shelf gift-wrapped by hand – each and every product. I love that! I also love the fact that it has a traceless, matte finish, so can be safely used on darker locks with no risk of that telltale, Marie Antoinette, talc-like look. Naturally as it’s Davines it is gleefully paraben free and has no added colourings either, so super safe for use and the planet.
Now Davines has added a new product for adding texture to its More Inside  range of 19 killer products, developed in conjunction with Artistic Director, Angelo Seminara. Called This Is a Dry Texturizing Spray, it is a lightweight, body-boosting spray that adds volume, control and texture to the hair, without weighing it down. The results are suitably glamorous hair that is bouncy and full of body, and it has a medium hold and can be re-styled as desired. Impressive, huh?
Made from two active ingredient combinations, one which creates texture without the use of resins, and the other which gives hair a moisture boost, this unique formula – which is naturally paraben-free – leaves hair well-defined without feeling stiff or weighed down.
What makes it different from the dust is its gentle approach and moisture boosting qualities, making it one amazing product.
To use it, shake well and spray on dry hair from approximately 10 inches away. For more extreme volume, Davines recommend that you apply their Volume Boosting Mousse on the hair, dry and then spray Dry Texturizer on both roots and lengths, lifting and gently releasing hair to ensure an even application. The end result is a big, Texas-style ‘do that just won’t quit. How great is that?

This Is A Dry Texturizer is in store now at all Davines stockists.

Love it: Jo Malone London’s The Herb Garden Collection

I love it when an unexpected scent catches my interest, especially when one of its key notes is a herb that isn’t usually top of my list. That is exactly what happened when I first sprayed on Jo Malone London’s Lavender & Coriander cologne from the iconic luxury scent company’s latest release, titled The Herb Garden Collection.
A new, limited edition collection of five fragrances inspired by "the aromatic artistry of herbs", the full line up of beauties is:
Sorrel & Lemon Thyme ~ with lemon, bigarade, petitgrain, sorrel, lemon thyme, rosemary, geranium leaves and moss.
Wild Strawberry & Parsley ~ with strawberry, blackcurrant, parsley, tomato leaves and violet.
Nasturtium & Clover ~ with rocket, lemon, clover, nasturtium, jasmine and vetiver.
Carrot Blossom & Fennel ~ with carrot, rose, orange blossom water and iris.
Lavender & Coriander ~ lavender, coriander, sage and tonka bean.
I read online that this beautiful – and insanely wearable - collection is the latest addition to the Brit Collection, and each perfume can be worn alone, or layered up with any of the other fragrances in the collection. The collection is inspired by a day in the herb garden – AKA “the aromatic artistry of herbs - and brings to mind a quirky tapestry of foliage, flower, citrus, moss, spice, leaves and greens. I love that each fragrance has a green, grassy feel to it but it isn’t overpowering and never “fake”  (for want of a better word), and that many like my favourite Lavender & Coriander are gloriously unisex. A distinctive feature of the line is also its design: this time around the colognes are produced in smoky-green glass bottles decorated with 'herbal' prints. They are a true joy to behold and I for one hope they’ll one day be added to the permament line!
Last up, the nose behind the range is the legendary Anne Flipo, who created the likes of Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto Le Parfum, Acqua di Gioia, Acqua di Gioia Essenza and Lancôme's Tresor Midnight Rose, both best sellers for a reason. I reckon this new collection for Jo Malone London will do just the same, and as its in store now I suggest you get your skates on!

All about: additions to the Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating collection

Elizabeth Arden isn’t called one of the most enduring and innovative skincare brands out there for nothing – their releases never cease to amaze me, not to mention their always-wearable and on point makeup collections.
One of the latest to cross my desk is the Skin Illuminating collection, which is an advanced skincare range that addresses the various degrees of skin discolouration, uneven texture and tone. Featuring the new Skin Illuminating Retexturizing Pads and newly reformulated Skin Illuminating Brightening Day Serum and Skin Illuminating Night Capsules, the dreadfully clever lineup is able to transform the appearance of dark spots and uneven tone, while enhancing the skin’s ability to reflect light. Oh - and it’s suitable for most skin types, which is a huge bonus.
Biological and environmental factors such as aging, hormones, inflammation and exposure to pollution and UV rays can produce excess melanin, which is why so many of us suffer from  newly formed dark spots and uneven skin tone.  Simultaneously, aging decreases collagen and elastin and increases pore size, leaving skin thin and rough and reducing light reflectivity on the skin’s surface.  As a result, skin loses its vibrant, healthy-looking glow, which none of us want!
This is where Elizabeth Arden made their entrance with the new collection, which takes a scientific approach to target dark spots and discolourations as well as the skin’s loss of radiance and luminosity, ensuring visibly brighter-looking skin. A double whammy, if you will.
“To achieve the most even-toned, radiant-looking skin possible, it’s important to not only focus on dialing down the darkness,” says Art Pellegrino, Vice President of R&D and Package Development for Elizabeth Arden.  “It is crucial to also act on enhancing light reflectivity on the surface of the skin, with products that help to promote a brighter, more radiant complexion.”
The Skin Illuminating Collection’s new superstar products are:
Skin Illuminating Brightening Day Serum – a brand new, concentrated yet lightweight daytime serum designed to help skin appear “smoother, more even and luminous”.  Key ingreds include
Advanced MIX Concentrate - a clinically proven blend of Vitamin C and Niacinamide encapsulated together that is able to target and help minimise the appearance of existing dark spots, sun spots, redness and uneven skin tone - and Biomimetic Peptide to support skin’s natural collagen and elastin.
Skin Illuminating Night Capsules – another new release, this is a high performance nighttime serum that works while the skin recovers during sleep to help skin look smoother, crystal clear and radiant. Key ingreds include the aforementioned Advanced MIX Concentrate, powerful antioxidant Licorice Extract and Paracress and Date Palm Kernel Extracts to fight the damaging effects of pollution and support skin’s natural collagen and elastin matrix.
Skin Illuminating Retexturizing Pads – these apparently give you the results of a professional spa treatment and were developed from the top selling product at Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Spa They sound amazing and are intended to safely exfoliate the top layers of skin for a clearer, more radiant and even-toned appearance.
This collection – including the newbies – is available now at Elizabeth Arden counters nationwide.

Beauty news: Ecoya unveils new look Botanicals by ECOYA

Everything that home fragrance house and bodycare brand ECOYA do is absolutely flawless in my opinion - from killer scents to beautiful events and gorgeous and surprising imagery, they seriously hit the nail on the head. Every time.
They are also always updating and refreshing what they do - which I equally love - in the form of delicious limited edition scents and gifting ideas, and now their new packaging for the Botanicals by ECOYA collection has been revealed and damn, she is gorgeous.
ECOYA, who amazingly sell a product around the world every 45 seconds, worked with their far-too-clever in house design team on the new look, which updates the perennial fave Botanicals collection. Launched in 2011 with a collection of six soy wax fragranced candles, the Botanicals by ECOYA range has now been re-introduced in bright, slick new packaging, that better reflects the bold, beautiful bouquets inside.
Re-working the classic Botanicals by ECOYA fragrances into new vessels and packaging, the collection features bright contemporary cartons and crisp white vessels, so not only did the outside get a look in, but the inside too. The Botanicals offering is now available in a new Botanic jar, Mini Botanic jar, Reed Diffuser, Hand Cream and Soap, in their five core – amazing - fragrances.
The fragrance combinations use both floral and plant blends that are quintessentially Australasian, with combinations including Jacaranda & Plum, Coral & Narcissus, Banksia & Bergamot, Midnight Orchid (my favourite) and a new addition, Oriental Lily & Patchouli (a Limited Edition fragrance from last year that was so sought-after it has been introduced to the core collection).
Like it’s big sister brand ECOYA, Botanicals by ECOYA uses only botanical bases and 100 per cent natural soy wax with cotton wicks for its candles, which have major fragrance throw and last and last. And it goes without saying that the body-care collection is hypoallergenic and free from Parabens, Sulfates, Propylene Glycol and artificial colours. Hell yes to that!

These beauties are in store now.

Beauty news: Lancôme announces the return of their most iconic muse

In super exciting news for women that aren’t fond of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Lancôme has announced that the perennially stylish Isabella Rossellini will serve once as the brand's muse, reprising the role she held for 14 years beginning in 1983. She was the first-ever face of the French cosmetics house and still the face that I have associated with it since my teenage years. Her new stint sounds a bit like the last: She will "spread the brand's particular vision of femininity to the four corners of the earth," according to a statement from Lancôme.
At 63, she joins a wave of amazing women of a certain age who are fronting beauty campaigns, including Charlotte Rampling for NARS and, more recently, Helen Mirren for L'Oréal. Accompanying the announcement is an illustrated portrait by French artist Marc-Antoine Coulon (below) - a reminder that Rossellini is indeed a work of art.
Isabella and Lancôme are effectively renewing the thread of the wonderful story that began in 1983 when she became the very first face of Lancôme, proclaiming the brand's values loud and clear in her own unique, incomparably modern way. For fourteen years, she was one of the most beautiful embodiments of the Lancôme woman. Lancôme call her a “keenly intelligent, accomplished woman, who at every stage of her life has made time her best ally, and happiness and well-being her greatest strengths”.
"Beyond Lancôme's values, which she represents so magnificently and quintessentially, Isabella embodies the idea of an accomplished beauty that is synonymous with well-being. She also maintains a very positive, serene attitude to age, which she experiences as liberating and self-affirming," declares Françoise Lehmann, General Manager of Lancôme. Isabella Rossellini will therefore be a spokesmodel for Lancôme on a regular basis, sharing the secret of her happiness and her opinion on how to accomplish genuine beauty. Her words will be relayed in the press, online and at special events. “I am overwhelmed with emotion to come back to Lancôme. Our collaboration meant so much to me in my life. Continuing it fills me with immense joy and great expectations. I am also well aware that this decision goes well beyond me: it's a strong indication of Lancôme's inclusiveness and celebration of all women”, says Rossellini.
The daughter of two icons of the silver screen (the Italian director Roberto Rossellini and the Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman), Rossellini is herself an iconic figure in cinema, a woman of culture and a free spirit. She has continually reinvented herself throughout her acting career. With cult roles and an impressive filmography, she is the definition of an eclectic, independent artist who has worked with major directors (David Lynch, Joel Schumacher, Guy Maddin) as well as mainstream with aplomb. Recently, she has been seen in Enemy by Denis Villeneuve and Joy by David O. Russell, and on stage to mark the centenary of her mother's birth.

Love it: Dove Summer Glow, perennial favourite

Even though summer is officially over - AKA the season of Less is Best - I like to have a bit of a glow on all year round and have become quite the fake bake connoisseur. If you’re a novice however – or like a lighter touch – a great option is using a gradual tanning product, and there are some stellar examples out there on the market. They are also the best choice if you’re as rubbish at applying self-tanners as I am, so it’s high time you made a gradual tan your friend – the best of the bunch are pretty much foolproof, and great for your skin to boot.
A gradual tanning product is a great way to extend the life of your spray tan and because you get a built in moisturiser you just pop it on after your shower and you are done. It’s incredibly easy to add to your daily routine, and once you get into the habit, you’ll be seriously hooked.
I’ve loved and used versions by Dove (save) and St. Tropez (splurge), but time and time again go back to the former for both its price point and its results. I thought it was amazing when I interviewed celebrity tanning guru James Read years ago upon the launch of his own, super luxe tanning range and he told me that before he had his own line Dove Summer Glow was his total Desert Island product – that is no faint praise!
I especially love that Dove Summer Glow comes in two formulas depending on your skin tone and how tan you like to go, which is a major for fair skinned types who are usually overlooked by the general tanning brigade. I use Medium to Dark and am yet to have a streak or an unnatural hue, and it smell a treat as an added bonus!
So, Dove Summer Glow is pretty much perfect, really, and the fact that it comes with a supermarket price point (sub $10!) is astonishing given its high performance formula. Love it.

All about: the beautiful Luk Beautifood collection

I am in Sydney as I type, setting down in the currently verrrrry steamy city for work and  - as always – loving every minute! Some pretty amazing stuff has come out of this city, including Luk Beautifood, a range of 100 per cent natural, toxin-free Lip Nourish products that really are good enough to eat.
The brand calls itself the “ultimate fusion of beauty, food and science”, with the aim of giving women the recipe to being a natural beauty. They are not a high gloss, high colour  cosmetic company, but a beautifully bespoke brand concerned about the ingredients you put in and on your body. Their focus is on carefully crafting lip products from foods we should all be eating for glowing health, energy and vitality, and the signature Luk look is a naturally beautiful face using neutral nudes and softened tones to create your very own healthy glow. Think highlighting rather than hiding, and celebrating your own personal beauty style.
The Luk range is made using a selection of active foods to feed the skin nutrients, hydration, protective antioxidants and anti-inflammatories; the result being a collection of gorgeous nude and netural sheer lipsticks that are universally flattering and suit most complexions. Lip Nourish is the perfect transition from a lip balm to a lipstick, with the added benefit of healing and nourishing. Love that!
Each Lip Nourish is packaged in a sleek nude and gold soft-touch, recyclable tube and is wrapped in eco-chic fabric wraps printed with a rainbow of foods that each tell a story about the beauty benefits of vegetable and fruit pigments, nutrients and antioxidants. It goes without saying that Luk products are completely free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, BHA’s, BHT’s and all synthetic preservatives, synthetic colours, phthalates, dimethicone, petroleum, talc, bismuth oxychloride, PEG’s, silicones, nanoparticles, no irradiation and not tested on animals. It’s beauty that’s good for your health, wellbeing and the environment, and who am I to argue with that? Pretty damn cool, really.
Luk Beautifood Lip Nourish is available in New Zealand from the awesome Oh Natural here – and check out their other ranges while you’re at it, there is a ton of goodness on there!

Beauty news: Alessandra Ambrosio joins L’Oréal Professionnel’s glam team

She’s hot on the runway and on the ‘Gram, so it comes as no surprise that L’Oréal Professionnel have snapped up Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio for their prestigious glam squad.
Alongside L’Oréal Professionnel’s international spokesperson Eva Green, who is pursuing her collaboration with L’Oréal Professionnel in 2016, Alessandra will represent DIA Richesse Hi-Visibility, one of the brand’s key colour launches this year. I love the fact that she is physically so different from the goth glam Eva, but still totally on brand for the global beauty giant.
With her finger always on the pulse of the fashion, social media and beauty worlds, Ambrosio was an obvious choice for L’Oréal Professionnel. The Brazilian supermodel, iconic Victoria’s
Secret “Angel” and creator of her own label Ale by Alessandra, counts more than 10 million followers on social networks. Whether as a top supermodel recognised worldwide or a committed campaigner or gracing the covers of magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and GQ, Ambrosio has become a role model for many women – and as carefully ahem, “watched” by men.
DIA Richesse Hi-Visibility is the brand’s new tone-on-tone hair colour set to launch in New Zealand June 2016. The new colour service delivers an ultra-visible colour signature on all hair bases, including dark tones.
“We are very happy to welcome Alessandra Ambrosio to the L’Oréal Professionnel team. This partnership illustrates the brand's strong digital transformation, which we've accelerated since 2014. Ambrosio perfectly embodies the values of fashion and beauty that are key for L’Oréal Professionnel. I am sure she will inspire many women and give them the desire to go to the salon,” says Anne-Laure Lecerf, L’Oréal Professionnel International Managing Director.
With hair as on point as Alessandra’s there is no question about that.
