Love it: The ECOYA Grand Celebration candle

Early last year I fell hopelessly in love with ECOYA’s Celebration candle, and have been impressively involved in an affair with it ever since. A beautiful way to celebrate, honour, remember or create a memory anew, the breathtaking Celebration candle comes housed in a luxurious, white cut glass jar that works its way seamlessly into any occasion. Its scent has the freshness of citrus and leafy green notes that create a warm, mossy floral heart, all perched effortlessly atop a rich, creamy base of Sandalwood, Vanilla, Balsam and Musk. Its packaging is equally as understated yet totally unique, boxed in silver and white with a simple ‘XO’ print and including the iconic, timeless message ‘with love’.
Having said all that, I am now even more unabashedly in love with the ECOYA Grand Celebration candle, a four-wick beauty that quadruples the fabulousness of the original and is already well ensconced on my dining table.
The brand celebrated the new Grand Celebration (pun intended) over an intimate lunch at Gusto at the Grand a couple of weeks ago, and everyone in attendance marvelled at its grandeur – especially when coupled with a price point that puts it under $100. Insane to be honest, especially given its size, amazing quality and the sheer power of its fragrance. What’s not to love, really?
The ECOYA Grand Celebration is essential purchasing for any candle fan, and has an RRP of an amazing NZD $99.95. Love it!

All about: the brand new Dr. Hauschka Night Serum

A skincare brand that has no exfoliants or night creams in its stable, but still gets incredible results? That'll be Dr. Hauschka, one of the world's most famous organic brands with an army of loyal followers all over the world despite its refusal to follow trends. Its fans talk about it with an almost cult-like reverence, and after over ten years in the business of writing about beauty it's a brand that I never stop hearing about as one of the best in its field.
For more than 40 years the company has grown and harvested over 150 biodynamic plants in their gardens, which can be found in a fairytale-like setting in Southern Germany. Complex rhythmical processing and attention to the biorhythms of nature result in potent plants that yield incredible essences, which are then formulated into the products that end up on our shelves. It's a range that has been designed to activate the skin's natural healing process and address the underlying cause of problems rather than simply masking the symptoms, and its loyal celebrity fans include Elle Macpherson, Julia Roberts, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts -women who know their skin and are celebrated for it.
The first thing people who are newbies to the brand always ask about this “no night cream” business - what is the thinking behind that? The manufacture of expensive night creams and serums is how many a brand makes its bread and butter! “While you sleep your skin is actually hard at work regenerating itself, balancing oil production and expelling impurities,” local Hauschka expert Janet Southern told me many years ago, “but the constant application of night creams interferes with these important tasks, and over time skin becomes less able to care for itself.”
So it is huge news then that a few years on Dr. Hauschka has released a brand new Night Serum that uses the power of the Rosen apple blossoms and fruit to stimulate the natural renewal processes and revitalise the skin. Just like the blossom of spring, the Rosen apple blossom invites the skin to open for its nightly renewal process and infuses the skin with the powers of the blossoms and fruits united in the Dr. Hauschka Night Serum. The beneficial composition is enhanced with botanicals such as witch hazel extract, and feels so light on skin that you hardly know it’s there.
While we are resting, our skin begins the important period of regenerative renewal that I spoke about earlier, and the new Night Serum gives the skin an optimal boost and supports its nightly regenerative processes, letting it breathe freely with the fast absorbing delicate oil-free serum whilst maintaining the skin’s moisture levels and leaving it smooth.
At night, the skin doesn’t need to be protected from outside influences; instead, it benefits from optimised conditions for self-regeneration, renewing its cells and eliminating metabolic wastes from organs that activate at night. The new baby stimulates the skin and boosts its natural activity, allowing it to breathe deeply, open fully and use the time for regeneration.
So there you go! After cleansing and toning in the evenings, apply a thin layer of Dr. Hauschka Night Serum to the face, neck - and if desired, décolleté – and allow it to do its thing.
Dr. Hauschka Night Serum is available right now RRP $75.00 (25ml) from leading department stores, selected pharmacies, Farmers stores and health stores nationwide and www.dr.hauschka.co.nz

Love it: By Terry Ombre Blackstar eye shadow

In 1988, after 15 years working in haute couture cosmetics, self-described “beauty designer” and inventor of the iconic Touche Eclat, Terry de Gunzburg launched By Terry, her own signature line of makeup and skincare.
Using only the purest ingredients and the latest high-performing formulas, By Terry’s raison d’être is nourished and luminous skin, and I am yet to meet a product of hers that I haven’t fallen immediately head over heels for. Two of the line’s most coveted products – Éclat Opulent Nutri-Lifting Foundation and Baume de Rose – are cult favorites among beauty gurus, and whenever I pop into my local Mecca Cosmetica store for a pre-evening out makeover I always request a little By Terry be thrown in there somewhere for an added glow.
The latest By Terry product to capture my heart is Ombre Blackstar eye shadow, a creamy little slice of perfection that is perfect for busy-meets-lazy types like me.
Termed a “melting” eye shadow by those in the know, it comes in a practical pen format and is concentrated with ultra-smoothing Tahitian black pearl extract. This combination means that it is insanely easy to apply and lights up eyelids with radiance-trapping multi-reflective shine. Its "tattoo-hold" stretch texture evens out eyelids with a waterproof radiance-lift reshaping film, and once it is on it is on for as long as you need to it to be – but never cracks or settles into fine lines. Love that!
So what you have in essence is an instant smoothing glow, smudge free formula, multi active ingredients and black pearl extracts for a little extra shimmer that is sophisticated but never sparkly. Too good!
I apply By Terry Ombre Blackstar Melting Eyeshadow as a wash directly with my fingertips at the base of lashes and blend up towards eyebrows, or you can use a brush if need be for any extra definition. So far I’ve been playing with the Blue Obsession shade a lot matched with a nude lip, but am keen to get more of the little beauties for daytime in particular – Bronze Moon looks like the perfect easily-smoked out brown, whilst Frozen Quartz could be the perfect neutral…

These babies are available now at Mecca Cosmetica stores and at http://www.meccacosmetica.co.nz/ for around $60.00 - $66.00.

All about: Goldwell's Grey Service and the amazing Olaplex

While many people try to hide their grey hair, spending hours eradicating the signs of advancing age, going grey may no longer mean reaching for the colour as "granny hair" is in vogue.
Fashion designers like the almighty Jean-Paul Gaultier, Chanel and Gareth Pugh have all styled their models with silver hair, and many have since followed suit. Spotted on celebrities including Lady Gaga, Pink, Rihanna, Nicole Ritchie and Kelly Osborne, the grey, white or lavender trend has been embraced by women worldwide with thousands posting pictures on social media sites under "#grannyhair".
Not everyone is feeling the grey as much as the high fashion mob however, and going grey is without a doubt the primary reason why many woman start having their hair coloured. But from clients that want to keep a more natural colour, to clients who want to embrace a fashion forward shade – grey is as diverse as salon clients can be.
Earlier this year haircare brand GOLDWELL started offering what they call Grey Service, supporting stylists to make a difference and convince their clients that there is only one destination to get individual and gorgeous grey – a salon. The brand new service works for natural to blonde and high fashion looks, and no matter how clients want to put their grey into the limelight Grey Service meets their needs whether they are male or female, young or old. They also offer a new Dualsenses Refining Silver Shampoo as the final step to maintain their beautiful, fresh and totally unique take on grey hair. Its SilverChromaComplex with lavender neutralises unwanted yellow tones and provides shine, making it a great home product for both grey and platinum blonde or white hair.
Next up I’d like to introduce the product that will suit both the "#grannyhair" trend and blondes down to the ground, and which for many could be officially considered a beauty life changer.
Called Olaplex, it is an additive that eliminates the bad reaction oxygen has with broken sulfite bonds in chemically treated hair that leads to breakage. And like the Big Bang, penicillin, and other scientific things of significance, it was discovered almost by accident. Olaplex founder and US beauty industry veteran Dean Christal was in the process of developing a silicone-based alternative to Moroccan oil when he met with Dr. Craig Hawker - one of the world's leading chemistry Ph.D's - in hopes of completing the process. After solving Christal's first problem, Hawker asked as an aside "What is the holy grail of hair product development?" Reportedly he answered “if a beauty company could keep chemical treatments from hurting hair, that’d really be something…” and the rest as they say, is history.
Naturally, Olaplex had something of an immediate and addictive effect on the industry. Four months into its publicly available life, it was in 7,000 salons around the world. The company's main source of publicity? Instagram, the modern day word of mouth.
Locally, the brand’s main ambassador is Danny Pato of D&M hair design, who tells me that he and his team have been working with Olaplex since March. “We can do so much more now with colour than what's been possible before,” he tells me enthusiastically, “if someone wants to go from dark brown to platinum blonde in one sitting, we can now do it knowing that the hair will stay in healthy condition.”
He explains that Olaplex can be used “in so many ways, including in any colour or as part of a keratin smoothing service, as it cross-links the disulphide bonds in hair that break down with chemical services, heat styling, UV exposure and mechanical damage. But Olaplex is most impressive when bleaching - the hair actually feels better when you've finished bleaching it!”
It will naturally be a huge deal for people currently already going lighter, but I ask him if he has had clients deciding to take plunge after hearing about it? “Absolutely! Now people can go lighter without fear. We've also had clients who have wanted to go lighter for a long time, but were giving their hair a bit of a break to get it in better condition. Now they don't have to wait so they're taking the plunge.” I did exactly that myself at D&M not long after, and have to say that my newly lightened ends look and feel incredible – definitely a first!
Talk swings back to grey hair, and what Pato thinks is the best way to tackle the transition - lightening up with something like Olaplex to soften the blow, or going full colour? “Both can be a great option,” says the salon super star, “covering greys with a very dark block colour can look too severe or artificial on some people yet dramatically striking on others, so would recommend ensuring the tone and depth suit your natural colouring.”
Lastly, he says that if you're beating natural greys by going blonde, you'll need to make sure you're using professional products to nourish and protect the hair, and again ensure that the tone of blonde suits you. “Either way, talk to your colourist, and make sure there's Olaplex in the mix so that your colour lasts longer and your hair is healthier!”

Beauty news: the whimsical return of New Zealand's Moreish Skincare

A good few years ago now I first talked about Moreish Skincare, at the time a new, locally created skincare range to the market that contained argan oil as its core ingredient. Argan was the absolute buzz ingredient back in 2011, and has shown no sign of disappearing in a hurry due to its amazing attributes.
Argan oil is now internationally renowned for its remarkable nourishing, regenerative and anti-ageing properties. Rich in Vitamin E, Omega-9 and antioxidants, the rare oil has been used for centuries by the Berber tribeswomen who harvest it to nourish their skin, hair and nails in the dry desert heat. It’s still rather hot right now, and more and more product ranges are popping up that harnesses its unique attributes.
What sets Moreish Skincare apart is that it also contains New Zealand oils and plant extracts - known for their amazing skin enhancing benefits - including Pohutukawa extracts, grown wild and hand-harvested in the East Cape. Other key ingredients include a unique blend of antioxidants naturally extracted from kiwifruit skins and grape seeds, which help to brighten the skin, reduce redness and improve elasticity.
Moreish Skincare also employs a ‘natural products’ approved preservative system - using no chemicals such as parabens or phenoxyethanol – and the range contains no petrochemicals, synthetic colours or synthetic fragrances, has recyclable packaging and is not tested on animals.
The range is intensely rich in vitamins and essential nutrients to hydrate, protect and restore your face and body without the use of harsh chemicals, and now it has made a comeback to the market with some absolutely beautiful new packaging. Just look at the pic above – how much do you want to see that kind of gorgeousness in your bathroom cabinet? Just heavenly, really.
Also pretty damn well priced and available exclusively through selected Countdown stores, the Moreish range includes:
Liquid Gold Pure Argan Oil, 30ml RRP $30
Liberation Foaming Cleanser, 200ml RRP $20
Anew Exfoliator 75ml RRP $20
Daily Redemption Day Cream 50ml RRP $25
Dream Night Cream 50ml RRP $25
Reawaken Eye Cream 15ml RRP $25
Resurgence Hand Cream 75ml RRP $20
At the moment I am in love with the Liberation Foaming Cleanser, which gently purifies and cleanses with a heady ingredient mix that includes Argan, Manuka Honey and Green Tea, and the Resurgence Hand Cream, a non-greasy, quickly absorbed little number that contains Argan, Shea Butter and Papaya.

Beauty news: Estée Lauder unveils a new scent, and a new muse

For fans – like me! – of Estée Lauder’s beautifully feminine yet totally modern Modern Muse fragrance there has been some big news dropped by the beauty giant. Not only have they unveiled a new fragrance “inspired by the glamorous, more provocative side of a Modern Muse” called Modern Muse Le Rouge, and a new muse to boot: Kendall Jenner.
The fragrance has been described as a “Fruity Floral Oriental” scent, and “a sexy contrast of rich roses awakened by ripe fruits with a velvet cream accord that captures the drama of this muse’s personality”. The innovative “dual-impression” fragrance structure allows women to experience the fragrance through two contrasting accords:
• Ripened Roses Accord: This facet of the fragrance captures the undeniable boldness of the Le Rouge woman and the colour. Juicy fruitiness of Bourgeon de Cassis and Raspberry, contrasted with vibrant Pink Pepper and Saffron blends with the floral richness of Bulgarian Rose and the petally freshness of Rose Centifolia.
• Velvet Cream Accord: Her sexy, provocative sense of style and dramatic presence are expressed through an addictive blend of full-bodied Madagascar Vanilla and the textural muskiness of Ambrette, refined with earthy, seductive Vetiver and Patchouli – and freshened with the lush femininity of Magnolia Flower and Jasmine.
“It was not just about capturing the scent of red, it was about capturing a state of mind, a vibrant, dramatic attitude,” says Karyn Khoury, Senior Vice President, Corporate Fragrance Development Worldwide, The Estée Lauder Companies. “This woman inspires others through her unwavering confidence, glamour and sophistication. She lives her life to be noticed – and every ingredient in this scent was carefully selected to reflect that.”
Which brings us to the new muse – a woman who is most definitely noticed everywhere she goes.
Kendall is the ultimate fashion and social media muse, and she debuts in her first-ever fragrance campaign  developed by Estée Lauder’s in-house Creative team, led by Global Creative Director, Richard Ferretti in collaboration with internationally renowned advertising and branding agency LLOYD&CO. The TV commercial, directed by award-winning Music Video Director, Jonas Akerlund, brings to life the power of Modern Muse Le Rouge as Kendall seamlessly alters the world around her one step at a time. The print campaign, photographed by Mikael Janssen, captures her undeniable glamour, power and magnetic persona. Both the TV and the print campaign were shot in Los Angeles.
As well as an Eau de Parfum in three sizes, Modern Muse Le Rouge is available as a  Shimmering Body Lotion that hydrates and replenishes moisture “leaving skin with a radiant sheen and silky smooth fee”l. Richly scented with the Le Rouge fragrance, it can be worn alone or as a complement to the Eau de Parfum.
Modern Muse Le Rouge will be available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and from www.smithandcaugheys.co.nz from August 10th 2015.Modern Muse Le Rouge EDP RRP $215 for the 100ml EDP, $163 for the 50ml and $112 for the 30ml, and Modern Muse Le Rouge Shimmering Body Lotion RRP $95.

All about: the RevitaLash® Cosmetics collection

I’ve seen a plethora of lash-enhancing products flooding the beauty market over the past couple of years or so, and have tried a few with varying degrees of success. Some definitely help nature along a little, whilst others make a serious difference and become brands synonymous with great lash game.
RevitaLash® Cosmetics is one of the latter, and has helped millions worldwide fall in love with their natural eyelashes by creating breakthrough and award winning formulations which work with your natural eyelashes to enhance, condition and revitalize, enabling them to become head-turning, lush lashes that you can’t wait to flutter.
The company was created and founded by ophthalmologist Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff, who created the signature RevitaLash® Advanced Eyelash Conditioner as a gift to his wife Gayle whose own lashes were damaged after intensive chemotherapy for breast cancer. The original lash conditioner was desiogned to renew lashes that are fragile, brittle or thin and enhances the strength and fullness of natural lashes, and was then followed by an array of products all designed to work with natural lashes by utilising the high impact proprietary technology of BioPeptin Complex. So what exactly is BioPeptin Complex, you ask? A combination of powerful peptides and age defying anti-oxidants that works to create an environment for your own lashes to flourish.
The aforementioned blend of scientifically-advanced technology and natural botanicals are designed to work with your natural lashes to protect them against breakage and brittleness and to help improve flexibility, moisture and shine, and I love that it comes with a custom designed brush that allows for hassle-free application i.e. the product stays on the lashes without running, which a lot of formulas annoyingly do.
Second up is the RevitaLash® Volumizing Perfect Primer, which is a product I have absolutely fallen in love with. It instantly saturates eyelashes with colour intensity and definition while boosting your lashes so they look top notch all day. It has a silky matte feel that goes straight to work to smooth out any unruly eyelashes or uneven surfaces to prime for effortless mascara application. And it makes your chosen mascara last… and last.
That chosen mascara could be RevitaLash’s® own Volumizing one, which is a buildable, clump-free and water-resistant mascara that allows for multiple applications until you get the look length-wise and lushness-wise that you want. It has an hourglass shaped brush that has been designed to follow the natural curvature of the lash-line as the bristles help to separate and define lashes and pick up every single little one for maximum volumizing effect and preventing clumping, flaking and smudging. Phew! It is also super longwearing and water-resistant, but damn easy to remove. Love that!
All RevitaLash® Cosmetics are dermatologist reviewed, ophthalmologist reviewed and clinically tested, and are never tested on animals. All RevitaLash® Cosmetic boxes are also 100 per cent recyclable, and the company devotes time, energy and resources to the goal of fighting breast cancer around the world through public education programs and by the contribution of time, energy and financial resources.
Amazing stuff. So what are you waiting for?

Love it: M.A.C's dazzling new Le Disko collection

“Le Disko, where glitter and glamour intoxicate and colour gets physical. It’s all see and be scene as the crowd converges under a sparkling aura of lights and erupts into a dazzling sea of eyes and lips..."

So reads the press info for the absolutely “must have, just do it, buy it all” collection from the inimitable M.A.C Cosmetics – the killer Le Disko.
It must be said that the idea of M.A.C and disco dazzling definitely go hand in hand, and it’s clear that the brand’s R&D department had a ton of fun (the names are brilliant) developing this beautiful product line up. It’s full of sparkle, pomp and fabulousness, but is also incredibly easy to use and full of options that can go from pretty to power-packed with just a few simple steps.
My favourites are the Dazzle eye shadows, which are a very loosely packed formula that is super soft to the touch. Their colour payoff is definitely comparable to the Bao Bao Jewels limited edition palette, except not as creamy and more powdery in formula. The glitter factor isn’t scary for first timers either –it is very fine and more of a shimmer, which makes it definitely easier to work with than those shadows with chunky glitter which get all over the place and flake off as the night goes on.
There are also some beautiful Dazzleglass shades for those that like a sparkly lip, two new liquid liners and a brand new brush. All in all extremely covetable, so start saving now as these drop August 3 at all New Zealand M.A.C locations!
The full lineup is:
She Sparkles - light grey with silver sparkles
Last Dance - peach beige with pink sparkles
Let’s Roll - red bronze with sparkles
Try Me On - deep blue green with sparkles
Say IT Isn’t So - dark grey with pink sparkles
Can’t Stop, Don’t Stop - deep plum purple with sparkles
Let’s Boogie - black with sparkles
Boom Boom Room - light burgundy with emerald sparkles
I Like 2 Watch - mid-tone brown with gold sparkles
Slow/Fast/Slow - bronze with red sparkles
Get Physical - purple with light blue sparkles
Feel The Fever - deep blue purple with pink sparkles

Rollergirl - _nude with pink pearl
Sugarrimmed - pale white beige
Phiff! - sheer neutral beige with orange undertone
Cherry Popping - fuchsia with purple pearl
Boys Go Crazy - dark purple with blue undertone

Nocturnal - bright silver pearl
Pure Show - bright yellow-gold pearl

All about: YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer and Blur Perfector

All hail the arrival of YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer and Touche Éclat Blur Perfector, a new dynamic duo of blur formulas that invoke the magic of the original must have product, Touche Éclat.
Primers are without a doubt the most underrated products in my makeup collection; I don’t own many and almost never wear them, mainly due to time constraints and general laziness. That is until now. Ever since trying the YSL Touch Éclat Blur Primer on at least an every-day-or-so basis, I’ve been making an effort to wear a face primer more often because I have noticed the actual difference it is making. The stuff is a marvel!
For those who haven’t heard of it previously, the YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer is a light-infused transparent gel primer, which claims to even out the skin tone, blur imperfections and help makeup last longer. Because it’s transparent, this primer allows the light to diffuse properly without interference from dulling opaque fillers, and it really days bring the GLOW big time. The formula is also non-comedogenic and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. This is the newest product on the Touche Éclat line, and the legendary brand calls it a key part of a “new beauty ritual” that I am more than happy to adopt.
So how exactly does it work? Well it diminishes the look of flaws thanks to an optical effect without masking the complexion, smoothes skin texture and boosts foundation radiance for a magnified result. It transforms skin with quite literally a surge of light, and comprises two unique light-diffusers:
1. Flat golden pigments for specular reflection. Light is reflected in a single direction to illuminate skin and bring imperceptible warmth to the complexion
2. Soft Focus Gel for diffused reflection. Light is reflected in multiple directions to deflect the eye from skin imperfections
The formula also contains a combination of four nourishing oils: Corn Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Passiflora Oil and Rice Bran Oil. Despite its heady formula it’s super-light and non-greasy, and I think the YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer has an edge over other primers I’ve tried in the past because it doesn’t feel like a thick layer of silicone sitting on the surface. It acts as a barrier between my moisturiser and my foundation, but it’s not impenetrable and it fuses with my foundation in the most naturally flawless way.
Next up in the duo is the YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector, which is a pretty amazing balm-powder blur that optically disguises imperfections and enhances skin’s natural, healthy rosy glow. It has a super soft texture that is the result of the 60/40 balance between powder and liquid, and leaves the skin’s texture immediately refined when you dab/tap it on. Pores become less visible and it mattifies the skin, but you don’t lose the healthy rosy glow we all want to achieve. Make sure to really tap it on without sweeping, and you can retouch as needed throughout the day.
These two marvels are available right now with an RRP of $92.00 each.

Spending time with: Romy Grbic of redox Facials + Beauty

Last month I was lucky enough to make the acquaintance of Romy Grbic of Jervois Road’s redox Facials + Beauty, one of the most enthusiastic and passionate therapists I have met in a long time. She absolutely exudes a love for what she does, and her passion is definitely infectious.
The self described “beauty alchemist" qualified as a beauty therapist in 2007 and since then has worked in many areas of the beauty industry including managing a spa on Waiheke Island, contributing to many magazines with articles on beauty and health and working in clinic in both Auckland and Melbourne. She is also a Clinical Nutritionist, graduating with top in her class from Wellpark College in 2014 after completing a two-year diploma in Clinical Nutrition.
The redox holistic facials are her specialty, always bespoke and designed for what your skin, body and mind need on the day. “I believe that beauty shines through and shows on the outside only when we have a healthy inside,” says Grbic. “Stress, improper diet and skincare regime, and lifestyle choices all show through your skin, and some choices dull our beauty where others nourish it.”
She uses a range of organic, biodynamic and natural skincare products on clients depending on their needs, including Tailor skincare, The Beauty Elixir and A.E.O.S (pictured above). She also makes her own facemasks using clays and superfood powders chosen to suit your skin conditions. “I’ve been using essential oils and oil blends on my own skin for some time now,” she says, “the idea of alchemy, alchemical skincare really resonates with me. I can get some amazing results just using hemp seed oil blends to treat acne and rosehip oils blends to alleviate dehydration, the possibilities are endless.”
“I’ve always loved the facial and skincare side of things,” adds the radiant brunette, “and since studying nutrition have found that’s where my passion lies.” She hasn’t given up on the more traditional side of beauty therapy however, “as I still have loyal clients that come for waxing or gel polish nails and I don’t want to let them down. I have the skills so why not offer to help people out in that area too if I can?”
She was raised by a yoga teacher mum and says that a holistic, earth friendly lifestyle was always around her as she was growing up. It wasn’t til 2012 however that she decided to embark on qualifications as a nutritionist, “and now I realise how entwined the two are. The condition of the skin is directly informed by what is going on inside your body, and treating it topically – even with amazing skincare – can only do so much.”
She offers a 90 minute Skin-Nutrition Consultation ($160) on her treatment menu, but says that the majority of her consults begin with a casual conversation. “Someone will be having their nails done and suddenly say ‘so I heard this thing about dairy…’ or ‘I’ve suddenly started getting breakouts…’ and inevitably I’ll give them some advice. Sometimes that will lead to them booking in for a proper consult and full nutrition programme, as well an introduction to holistic and natural skincare.”
She talks about clients who have ongoing skin problems like inflammation and rosacea who she had been giving facials to for some time, “and I just had to stop them and say ‘look, we need to talk about why this is happening to you’, because usually there is a deeply rooted problem that is causing it. So much of what is happening to your skin begins in the gut, and that’s always the best place to start.”
We talk about the guided meditation aspect that she offers along with her facials, which she says has seen the number of bookings increase exponentially. It is clearly something that people want and need more of in their lives, and I love the fact that she offers a physical, relationship or financial abundance option. I can highly recommend a combo of all three! The Meditation Facial is a delicious 90 minutes long, and costs $150. Romy describes it as “combining all aspects of inner and outer skincare, skin health and wellness to instil a sense of true relaxation, calm and peace and leave you floating out the door on a cloud of true bliss”. The Meditation Facial starts with a 20-minute back massage, to ground you and allow you to truly relax from the very start. Every aspect is bespoke, from the choice of products (from all natural clays and oils to cosmeceutical Medik8) to the guided meditation, which brings stillness to even the busiest of minds. “So many skin conditions involve inflammation,” says Romy, “which can be largely caused by stress. Just the act of having a facial will bring those stress levels down so you’re on the right track already.”
She also offers the A.E.O.S Facial, which is 75 minutes long and uses a brand I previously had no knowledge of. A.E.O.S stands for Active Energised Organic Skincare and it’s a biodynamic skincare range aimed at bringing balance to your skin by balancing your body’s energy. It also includes a beautiful guided meditation that you can choose on the day, dependent on how you are feeling and what you feel like you want to focus on at the time.

Love it: Sodashi's brand new Enzyme Face Polish

Barely launched and already temporarily out of stock (how crazy is that?) Sodashi’s beautiful new Enzyme Face Polish will change the way you look at exfoliation. It really is that good – and that kind to your skin.
As we age, the natural exfoliation process slows down which leads to a build-up of dead skin cells. Fine lines, uneven skin tone and sometimes acne can often be the result of this build-up, but so many exfoliating products on the market can be harsh on the skin and make these issues – and many more – even worse for your skin. Despite being around for a good many years now, Sodashi have only just introduced this product, previously leaving it up to their concentrates and a muslin cloth to take care of the exfoliating side of things. This means that creator Megan Larsen thought long and hard about what she has created and why skin needs it, and the end result is nothing short of outstanding and so much more than “just another face scrub”. Sodashi’s Enzyme Face Polish actually strengthens the natural exfoliation process to reveal beautifully glowing skin, and is a triple action exfoliant for instant radiance.
It’s star ingredients are:
POMEGRANATE ENZYME – Hydrating and brightening, Pomegranate Enzymes gently dissolve the topmost layer of the epidermis to reveal new and healthy skin cells.
RICE POWDER – Natural Rice Powder gently smooths and brightens the complexion without damaging the surface of the skin.
SWEET ORANGE – Uplifting Sweet Orange Oil plumps up cells giving a soft, full and velvety appearance to the skin.
GERANIUM – Comforting Geranium Oil has powerful skin rejuvenating qualities to balance, heal and firm the skin.

It is designed to be used once or twice a week depending on your skin type, just start by massaging a small amount into damp skin after cleansing with gentle circular motions. Leave on for 1 to 2 minutes and then rinse off or remove with a warm face cloth and voila – the glow you never knew you had will be right there for all to see!
Sodashi’s Enzyme Face Polish has an RRP of $110 and for stockists head to www.sodashi.com
