Winter essential: GO Healthy GO Manuka Honey UMF®

Manuka Honey UMF® is the purest antibacterial healing agent known to man and it tastes delicious! Manuka Honey is one of the most famous honeys in the world, having been around for thousands of years and containing incredibly high antioxidant properties.
Because of its sizeable isolation from the rest of the world and its island biogeography, New Zealand has extraordinary flora and fauna that is unique to our beautiful country. About 80 per cent of the flora occurs only in New Zealand, one being the Manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium) - an evergreen tree with intensely scented flowers that bloom in summer. Needless to say bees love them and play a large role in helping craft a type of honey that is in demand all over the world.
Quality manuka honey bears the trademark UMF® = Unique Manuka Factor. This is a quality mark that represents the testing of the Non-Peroxide Activity in honey using various test methods and is recognizable and verifiable all over the world. Some manuka honey could be said to be a true "wonder of nature" as some (but not all) of the manuka honey available has a healing ability or anti bacterial "activity" that is truly exceptional. Not only does this special honey contain Hydrogen Peroxide activity in good stable levels, but also "non peroxide" activity additional to and above or stronger than the Hydrogen Peroxide. Recent research indicates that this additional non-peroxide activity is a substance called MethylGlyoxal, which has very powerful germ killing abilities. Why it naturally occurs in some but not all manuka honey at extraordinarily high levels (up to 200 times stronger than all other honeys around the world) is not yet fully understood, but it’s so good at healing infection that in many hospitals around the world now, Active Manuka Honey is a key healing option. It is used when nothing else works for treatment of antibiotic resistant MRSA super bugs, Bed Sores and other external ulcerative conditions, Helicobactor Pylori (stomach ulcer causing bacteria), E Coli, Staphylococcus Aureus (the most common cause of wound infection) and Streptococcus Pyogenes (stubborn, often antibiotic resistant bacteria which inflame and cause sore throats). It is very healing externally on the skin for conditions such as burns, wounds, dermatitis, eczema and abscesses, and has even been known to decrease the duration of bacterial diarrhoea.
Which brings me to GO Healthy’s GO Manuka Honey UMF 8+, 12+, 16+ and 20+, which are on the shelves now and all contain 100 per cent pure active Manuka Honey sourced from New Zealand. Each product guarantees premium UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) levels and is charged with high levels of antioxidant, anti-bacterial and skin healing properties to offer nature’s gold at its best.
In 1981, Dr Peter Molan (MBE), Associate Professor in Biochemistry at Waikato University, confirmed that some strains of the New Zealand Manuka bush honey contain a stable and powerful non-peroxide antibacterial activity not found in any other variety of honey. Hence, what sets Manuka Honey apart as one of nature’s true wonder foods is the aforementioned UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) Honey Association Logo, which features on every GO Healthy GO Manuka Honey product.
This UMF quality trademark is carefully protected and measures anti-bacteria levels; UMF licence holders must meet strict testing and auditing standards to make the mark. The higher the UMF number, the more potent and pure the Manuka Honey is, ranging from UMF 5+ through to the strongest strain of UMF 20+.
So this winter is the perfect time add some Manuka Honey into your life in order to ward off what ails you or is threatening to ail you, and I for one and smack bang into a jar right now as I have a cold bearing down that I just won’t let win!

Beauty news: Crème de La Mer for World Oceans Day 2015

Crème de la Mer is one of the most well-regarded - and luxurious - skin creams in the world, thanks to its unique use of sea kelp, eco-friendly processing and above all, the astonishing results the cream yields. To celebrate World Oceans Day today, the skin care brand has once again released a very special, limited edition version of their famous moisturising cream; happily, the Limited Edition Crème de la Mer 100ml ($660) will look just as good sitting pretty on your bathroom sink as it will feel on your face and conscience!
In their quest to improve the health of our oceans, La Mer, which uses only sustainable hand harvesting to gather their sea kelp, threw their weight behind two highly-esteemed conservation organisations: the National Georgraphic Society and Oceana. To date, La Mer has donated over $1.5 million to Oceana in support of World Oceans Day, and last year they collaborated with National Geographic's underwater explorers to create a breathtaking short film, led by legendary explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle. This year they are supporting two new explorers alongside Earle, Dr. David Gruber and Shannon Switzer.
If you’re looking for a way to support World Oceans Day, celebrated annually on 8 June, then this is definitely the most stylish option. The limited edition 100ml World Oceans Day Crème de la Mer is available this year from June 1 and is absolutely breathtaking. It comes in a specially designed, ocean-inspired jar that is almost too good to open, and I’ve even been told of fans of the brand who collect these most beautiful limited editions religiously each year. To commemorate the World Oceans Day 2015, a 100ml jar of Crème de la Mer with a new limited-edition design will be available May through June 2015.
Created in 1992 and made official by the United Nations in 2009, World Oceans Day serves as a time to recognise the importance of the sea as a vital ecosystemm and to take action to preserve its delicate habitats and wildlife. For the first time, this year the La Mer jar design will be inscribed with 'Blue Heart' to communicate the brand’s ongoing goal of supporting the protection of the blue heart of our planet – the ocean.
The cream was originally created to honour La Mer founder Dr Max Huber’s love for the sea, and its ability to regenerate and heal the skin. It is hoped that the campaign will also encourage awareness around the necessity to preserve the oceans, and also its fragility and importance as a restorative resource to us all.
World Oceans Day was made official by the United Nations in 2009 and recognises the importance of protecting the ocean and its habitats. To date, Oceana has already made a big contribution by reducing over-fishing and nurturing several ‘threatened marine habitats with its science-based policies’. Save our oceans AND save your skin - what a glorious combo.

Love it: Yves Saint Laurent Les Sahariennes

It might have a rather lengthy name, but Yves Saint Laurent Les Sahariennes Healthy Glow Balm-Powder is quite the beauty revelation, and perfect for this time of year in particular!
A revolutionary balm-to-powder formula that delivers a natural looking, sun kissed glow, it comes in the signature gold Yves Saint Laurent compact packaging and does some rather wonderful things.
Essentially, YSL has reinvented bronzing – and flawlessness - with the first healthy glow blur in a compact. From contouring to a gentle sun kissed brush of bronze, it is a multi-tasking bronzing palette that is super-soft on application and melts into skin, perfectly recreating a natural sun kiss of colour.
I love the fact that the formula is never muddy or overly shimmery, it just makes your complexion look immediately refined: pores appear diminished, imperfections are disguised, your skin feels smoother and more radiant all round. In other words: like you, but much, much better!
Available in six universal and wearable shades to match any complexion, it comes with a dual-ended applicator that can be used to create two signature finishes. You can wear it sheer using the brush or build up to a more extreme contoured look using the sponge if that is what you require, or use the brush in the hollows of your cheeks for even greater definition. I’ve been using the sponge all over for a warm glow, moving outwards from the centre of my face to keep things natural and fresh. It leaves a silky matte finish that is super flattering rather than chalky, and it is non-comedogenic and has been tested under dermatological control for those with problem or sensitive skin.
Available right now with an RRP of $105.00, it is really is the perfect product to introduce at this time of year when you’re skin is feeling sallow or a little dull. If the sun isn’t coming then let the sun come to you I say, and this little marvel does that in the most natural looking way possible. Love it.

Love it: Davines More Inside This Is A Texturizing Dust

I’ve long been a heavy user of dry shampoo and hair dusts and powders, mainly because I don’t like washing my own hair (First World Problems, oui?) and also because I have a fringe that necessitates frequent re-booting. I got to the gym six days a week and they are a godsend for a greasy fringe, perhaps the perfect product.
The latest to cross my desk is also Italian conscious haircare brand Davines’ first foray into the hair powder arena, and it’s known as This Is A Texturizing Dust. It is a new addition to their beautiful More Inside range, which comes from the salon shelf gift-wrapped by hand – each and every product. I love that!
Designed to offer instant volume, the new This Is A Texturizing Dust can be applied directly to boost height at the roots or rubbed in to the length of the hair for extra body. It’s suitable for all hair types and contains Silica powder, a mineral with absorbent and volumising properties that interact with other ingredients to give hair lasting lift and volume, without leaving any residue or weighing hair down. This has been a problem with some hair dusts/powders as the build up can be brutal, but this gives instant volume and makes hair grippingly perfect for updos as well. Oh and it has a traceless, matte finish, so can be safely used on darker locks with no risk of that telltale talc-like look.
Naturally as it’s Davines it is gleefully paraben free and has no added colourings either, so super safe for use and the planet.
Like many of its ilk it is super easy to use, give it a bit of a shake and then lightly sprinkle onto the roots where volume is desired. Start small and build up to avoid using too much, or sprinkle it into your hands, rub them together then apply to your hair for added texture and definition. Davines says that you can also use it for a “hair expansion” effect by sprinkling it on a flat brush and smoothing through hair tips and lengths.

Davines More Inside Texturizing Dust is available right now for RRP $44.00.

Benefit Cosmetics and David LaChapelle celebrate all new they’re real! shades

The Benefit Cosmetics’ they’re real! franchise is the gift that just keeps on giving – and surely two of the best eye loving products on the block. And two of the best are set to get even better with the upcoming launch of their shade extensions for breakthrough products they’re real! mascara and they’re real! push-up liner!
To celebrate in true beauty maven style, the San Francisco-based beauty company has teamed up with famed photographer  - and friend of Pamela Anderson - David LaChapelle to capture the collection’s now-infamous bold-and-girly personality.
In 2011, they’re real! mascara successfully launched—with the “support” of its playful and provocative campaign, featuring an over-endowed bombshell hooked up to a lie detector machine, swearing, “They’re real, honest!” (Her lashes, of course.) Last year, its partner in crime—they’re real push-up liner—joined the lineup in a mug-shot-themed campaign that proved anyone create the perfect cat eye, even whilst sporting a pair of handcuffs (debatable but hey, it looked awesome!).
“So the question, of course became, ‘How can we continue this magic?’” says Hannah Malott, Creative Director for Benefit Cosmetics. “We knew that [David LaChapelle] could—more than any other—continue our story in a new, bold, unexpected and memorable way. David weaves layers upon layers of stories into his sets. Every element, every detail aids in the weaving of a complex tale that engages the viewer endlessly.”
So what’s the story behind this campaign? “There’s danger, sex, breaking the rules,” says LaChapelle behind the scenes at the shoot, which costume designer Johnny Wujek describes as “an ode to the 40s and gangster-mafia with a super-sexy LaChapelle twist.”
“You put it together intuitively, and you don’t really know what this story is about,” continues LaChapelle. “It makes you ask questions.”

But now for more on the two new shades of they’re real! mascara—beyond blue and beyond brown—and four colorful versions of they’re real! push-up liner—beyond blue, beyond brown, beyond purple and beyond green. How do they look? Just beautiful. How do they perform? Superbly. Being blue eyed I’ve been all about the new beyond brown liner in particular for day, and beyond purple for night. You really need little else on for a really popping end result, so they are definitely instant go-to prods for me.
Keep an eye out - these babies are landing soon.

Love it: Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation

Well, well… Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation you are quite the little wonder. After being sent a preview compact I’ve been wearing this foundation for two weeks now, and I have been verrrry impressed with it.
Acting as what the brand has called a “photo filter for your face’, the new Smashbox Photo Filter
Powder Foundation will quickly become a makeup must for many fans of the brand out there and newbies too. The eight-hour wear powder foundation provides two filter effects in the one portable – and very attractive, I might add – compact, which comes with a double-sided sponge for both sheer and full coverage. One side is slightly more velvety than the other, and is said to provide a more natural finish. I had a go at applying the product with a kabuki style brush too, buffing it into the skin for an airbrushed finish that was pretty damn flawless, and can highly recommend that approach too.
Smashbox’s Light Filter Technology combined with the performance of long-wear Photoset Polymers (apparently inspired by medical-grade liquid bandage technology!) make sure that the formula sticks to skin for hours on end, meaning there is no need to reapply throughout the day.
Not only does it stay put, the non-drying, non-caking and non-settling particles in the oil-free foundation formula are translucent, so the pigment’s true colour always comes through.
The powder is extremely soft and creamy and literally glides on to your skin, which is a bonus if you have drier skin or are the wrong side of 35, and you need very little product to get a flawless finish. I felt like the foundation really did “blur” my imperfections, and smoothed out my face. It does not accentuate dry skin or any dry patches on your face like some powder foundations can do either, which gets two thumbs up from me.
Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation has an RRP of $62 and is available in ten shades varying from Vanilla, Beige, Tan and Cocoa. Ad it’s available right now from selected Life Pharmacies, beauty spas, the Smashbox Concept Store and online at www.smashboxcosmetics.co.nz

Love it: Clinique's new Pop Lip Colour + Primer

As a brand, Clinique do bright, true and flattering colour VERY well. The Clinique Cheek Pop blushers were one of my hugest (and I mean huge) obsessions last year and quite possibly my favourite blushers ever. So perfectly pigmented and easy to use – a dream to be honest.
Next up in the Pop category for the company is Clinique’s Pop Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick, which is essentially a super rich colour lipstick and smoothing primer in one. The smoothing bit comes from the inclusion of Shea and Murumuru butters, whilst flexible polymers help to keep colour fresh and vibrant and on for an eternity. To say these are merely ‘longwear’ would be an understatement – and with zero compromise on moisture levels.
Now this gorgeous new range has 16 shades that are grouped into four different colour families, each little tube a lightweight formula that lasts for up to eight hours. It glides on effortlessly, creating a modern-velvet finish that keeps lips comfortable while colour stays true.
And it’s not just about colour. The texture and feel is so good. They are light but super nourishing, as well as – as per Clinique’s brief - allergy tested and 100 percent fragrance-free.
They are also available right now, so head to your nearest Clinique counter and get amongst!

All about: Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Body Cream, reformulated

I’ve been banging on about upping your moisturiser game in the lead up to winter for some time now, and thankfully a lot of the beauty big guns are releasing new products that are targeted specifically at that. The latest is a reformulation of an already great body cream, as in Trilogy’s Ultra Hydrating Body Cream.
The cold weather can cause skin to become dry and dehydrated, but the simplest way to banish winter skin and keep it looking and feeling great is to switch to richer moisturising cream packed with pure plant oils. This is where the certified natural Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Body Cream steps in, newly reformulated to deliver even deeper hydration and nourishment.
It comes infused with Trilogy’s signature certified organic rosehip oil which is rich in repairing essential fatty acids, but now includes three new natural actives to make it even more delicious. Cocoa butter (one of my personal faves) delivers intensive nourishment, whilst sweet almond oil and coconut extract combine to create a silky-smooth textured cream that absorbs rapidly and completely so you can dress straight away in the a.m.
It also comes a touch of natural mineral mica to reflect light, so you get a bit of a glow on when you need it most. That’s a bonus if you’re heading to warmer climes as well – just add bronzer and you’re good to go.
The new, improved Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Body Cream (150ml) is available right now with an RRP of $29.90 from selected Farmers, pharmacy, department and health stores nationwide.

Beauty news: introducing the new ghd platinum™

Already totally owning it in the styling tools arena and true leaders in the field of all things hair, ghd has just introduced the new ghd platinum™, their best styler ever and available any day now. Designed to take the guilt out of heat styling, the incredible new tool (which I have been using and can fully vouch for) uses safer-for-hair heat that delivers ultimate styling results in just one stroke. In other words – the best just got better.
It uses the company’s patented tri-zone™ technology and works super quickly and effectively to straighten, curl and style hair whilst reducing breakage by over 50 per cent. Intelligent tri-zone technology means that women no longer have to make a choice between the style and health of their hair - ghd platinum™ is truly an all-in-one solution. Developed by ghd scientists, intelligent tri-zone™ technology uses three sensors in each plate, ensuring the optimum temperature for styling hair is consistently maintained across the entire plate during styling. The sensors mean there’s no sudden surge or drop in temperature – both of which can be detrimental to hair health and styling results – delivering safer-for-hair heat at all times, from roots to ends.
It is also extremely good looking, and comes with a unique patented wishbone hinge and ergonomic design that allows for perfect plate alignment and better control. It also has slightly wider plates that are a major bonus for long, thick hair types like me, and I am seriously head over heels for it.
Lino Sinni, ghd Managing Director of Australia and New Zealand, said of the new release: “the days of having to compromise are over, with the introduction of the new ghd platinum™ styler. With our continued focus on innovation, new and improved features and revolutionary technology, ghd is dedicated to creating products so that women can have it all.”
Dr Tim Moore, Chief Technology Officer at ghd’s Research and Development Facility in Cambridge,
UK explained that extensive research and testing has been invested into the development of ghd platinum™. Independent Princeton University test results showcase that ghd platinum™ is the only styler that actually achieves ultimate styling results and healthier, stronger and shinier hair.” Scientifically proven to be better for your hair? They don’t come much better than that, huh?
As well as its new design and performance, ghd platinum™ also includes all the features that ghd fans already love like a heat resistant plate guard to protect surfaces after styling, a handy sleep mode for complete peace of mind, and the ability to create killer curls and waves as well as ghd’s signature straight look.
It’s also available in classic matte black or contemporary matte white, depending on your end of the day, bathroom #goals.
The ghd platinum™ black and white styler is available in late May from approved ghd salons and www.ghdhair.com/nz with an RRP of $360. For stockist information call 0800 880 209.

Love it: Savar Spa’s premium Ultra Nourishing Body Butter

When the temperature drops it’s a good idea to bring out the big guns when it comes to skincare – and if you’ve got eczema-prone skin like mine, even boost yourself up with some supplements that can keep your largest organ looking and feeling as hydrated as possible.
As well as your face it’s a good idea to hydrate the skin on your bod, which can all too easily get hidden under multiple layers and forgotten about until the spring lambs make their appearance. A wonderfully nourishing body butter is a luxury your skin will thank you for as the skin on your body can be just as quick as the skin on your face in showing signs of dryness and damage.
One of the latest I have been loving is Savar Spa’s premium Ultra Nourishing Body Butter – an asboute treat for the skin AND the senses. Made in New Zealand and available in two delicious fragrances - ginger & lime and pacific coconut – it’s a luxurious moisturising spa treatment that is crafted using premium New Zealand avocado oil and New Zealand Blackcurrant seed oil, two of nature’s superfoods. Also guaranteed to banish dry skin on knees and elbows, and cracked heels, it is a new jewel in the crown for the premium 99 per cent natural skincare range with an ingredient list that encompasses an entire plant catalogue. New Zealand blackcurrant seed oil, organic bilberry, marshmallow extract, organic fig, lime flower, lemon balm and organic goji berries are just some of the skin benefiting goodies included in Savar’s modern, effective products.
The Savar Spa Ultra Nourishing Body Butter is available right now for $45.00 from www.savaronline.com and selected leading retailers.

All about: Synergie's brand new Micellution

Models swear by them, every make-up artist I know has one in his or her kit and with their no-rinse, three-in-one formulas they're perfect for traveling and late nights. What are they? Micellar waters, and I for one have been a looooong time fan.
Micellar waters first gained momentum in Paris, whose skin-conscious inhabitants welcomed the opportunity to swerve the bad effect that the city's famously hard water had on their skin. I have always picked a couple of bottles up when I visit family in France, and love the way they work. Designed to be swept away with a cotton pad rather than rinsed off, micellar waters use tiny micelle particles to draw make-up (including waterproof mascara), sebum and impurities from the skin. Depending upon how much make-up you wear you may prefer to remove eye make-up separately, but since micellar waters are free of soap and alcohol they are a way more gentle alternative to harsh face wipes, making them perfect for when you're in a rush or on the go.
I am definitely not the only one who loves how Micellar Cleansing Water works, capturing impurities like a magnet and trapping them within the Micelles, which are then carried off by the Micellar water and are effectively eliminated without the need for rubbing or rinsing. They are also ‘multi-zone’ products as they remove make-up from the face, eyes and lips and don’t require water, so great for travel and at the gym et al.
A few of the supermarket and pharmacy brands have launched their Micellar waters into the local market of late (at LONG last), but recently I’ve had the chance to try a more luxe version in the form of Synergie Micellution, the latest product from the highly respected Synergie Minerals brand.
Micellution is a gentle 4-in-1 micellar cleansing water that will effectively remove traces of makeup, oil build-up and impurities from the skin. In a few sweeps, impurities are dissolved without stripping the skin, leaving the skin purified, balanced, soothed and hydrated.
Micellution follows the Synergie ‘Clean Science’ philosophy, which means it is formulated without PEG, parabens, irritating surfactants such as SLS, artificial fragrance or colours. The calming solution makes it a skin-nurturing alternative to the harsh traditional face wipe, and it is suitable for use on all skin types, including sensitive skin, and gentle enough to use on the eyes and lips. This makes it stand out from many of those that I’ve tried in the past, and will definitely make me use it again (and again).
Its key ingredients are witch hazel (a natural astringent that reduces inflammation and sanitises the skin), Sodium PCA (a deep hydrator acting like a ‘water magnet’), Canadian Willowherb (an amazing anti-irritant and anti-redness ingredient for all skin types) and good old Aloe Vera.

Micellution is available from June 1, RRP $75.00.

Love it: Jo Malone London Incense & Cedrat Cologne Intense

If you've ever been into a Jo Malone fragrance boutique (and if you haven’t then I sincerely recommend that you do, and ASAP), then you'll have noticed that the much-loved company is keen not to label its fragrances by gender. Traditionally, the vast majority of its fragrances have tended to favour sweeter, more feminine florals, which are hugely popular for their non-cookie cutter approach and signature fragrance combination possiblities. I’m not usually a florals fan but can always find a way to make a Jo Malone London release work with some of my greener or spicier favourites, and I seriously never get as many compliments on my perfume with any other brand. However having said that, recently I've noticed the brand adding more scents to its Cologne Intense line, which tend to take more masculine notes as their base - and the tenth addition, Incense & Cedrat, is no different. GQ UK called it “perhaps the most guy-friendly iteration yet”, but I think it’s just plain gorgeous – and gloriously unisex.
Jo Malone London launched the first perfumes in the Cologne Intense Collection in 2010 and this June comes the aforementioned Incense & Cedrat, which was inspired by Omani incense. The Omani incense is harvested from the Boswellia sacra tree and Marie Salamagne, the perfumer who created Incense & Cedrat, said that Omani incense has never been captured before. Marie used the NaturePrint™ technique to help it make its way into the perfume, and it comes surrounded by lemon, pepper, elemi, labdanum and benzoin. The NaturePrint™ technique involves taking resinous incense tears into the fragrance house to create and infusion and essential oil, which are then analysed in the laboratory in order to recreate the scent using natural ingredients, under the direction of a Master Perfumer. The science blows my mind a little but let’s just say that the end result is flawless, and I can’t get enough.
I have been a fan of the brand’s Incense & Embers home candle since it arrived on the shelves and have long lamented that it wasn’t a fragrance, so the release of Incense & Cedrat has satisfied my longing and more. It is so wearable and warm especially for this time of year Down Under, and I’ve heard it combines superbly with Oud & Bergamot and Red Roses, both of which I am very keen to try. Oh and bring on a dry body oil please - fingers crossed!
If Incense & Cedrat sounds like a bit of you then the wait is almost over – it will be available as a 100ml Cologne Intense at the beginning of June.

Love it: the Remington Flawless Nails Manicure & Pedicure Kit

Sick of shelling out for mani/pedis and want to attempt a DIY a pro-finish at home? The rather amazing Remington Flawless Nails Manicure & Pedicure Kit has all the essentials you’ll need to achieve perfectly primped and preened fingers and toes — just add your favourite polish and cuticle oil and you’re goof to go... Love that!
A right little wonder pretty much packed with everything you need, it can be used on either natural or arcrylic nails although thus far I’ve only tried it on my currently ‘nude’ toes. They now look perfectly buffed and brilliant, and the fact that the main energy source for all of the components is cordless and can last up to 2.5 hours of use time meant that I could go as sweet and slow as I liked for the best result.
It comes with three different textured coarse disks, two different textured polishing disks, a mini cleaning brush, cuticle pusher, precision shaping cone, precicsion shaping cylinder, callus remover and even an innovative integrated high speed nail dryer fan, which is easier to use on nails than toes but is a bonus all the same. It also includes a manual cuticle push stick, power adaptor storage chamber and instruction book, and once you have the process nailed and have worked out what goes where, is a breeze to use.
Needless to say it is also THE perfect last minute Mother’s Day present – even offer to complete the mani or pedi yourself and reap the rewards!

Beauty news: award-winning Hand Chemistry hits NZ

Just like my skincare, when it comes to hand cream I look for a formula with at least a modicum of grunt or really, what’s the point? Nice smelling is all well and good, but I want a cream that works for the privilege of being lathered on my hands!
So what if your most advanced skincare was your hand cream? It’s no longer simply a wonder with the arrival of Hand Chemistry on New Zealand shores.
The Hand Chemistry line has been sold by Boots in the UK since the end of 2013 — and within two weeks it was outselling every other hand and body product in the store. Today’s hand creams are far more sophisticated than their predecessors, and Hand Chemistry is thought to be at the top of the rung. These days, you’re as likely to find SPFs and active ingredients designed to counter wrinkles and age spots in your hand cream as your face cream, and while the company behind Hand Chemistry doesn’t advise using it on your face, it does admit its lotion was inspired by face creams.
“As hands can age more dramatically than the face, we had to include higher concentrations of a selection of the most effective anti-ageing technologies to be able to produce a very visible difference within just a few days,”says founder Brandon Truaxe says of the collection.  Higher concentrations of the most effective anti-ageing technologies, for a fraction of the price of a traditional anti-ageing cream? Where do I sign up?
The company has now released two of their bestselling body-care products in Caci Clinics nationwide, and results can be seen and felt in 14 days. The two up for grabs are:
Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex (RRP $39.99)
This award-winning hand cream boasts a 19.5% active complex designed to target the eight signs of hand ageing including firmness, elasticity, density, evenness, brightness, texture, smoothness and hydration. Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex is formulated with Biological GHK - a copper peptide that stimulates collagen production - and a biotechnological mushroom derivative proven to be 400 times more moisturising than Hyaluronic Acid. Sacha Inchi Oil and Maize Propanediol work together to form a protective moisture barrier, ensuring that the skin is able to hold on to this newfound moisture, with visible results in just ten days. Given that the hands are one of the first places to tell your age then this is most definitely a must if you’re shelling out on prods for your face.
Heel Chemistry Heel Hydration Complex (RRP $39.99)
This one is for your tootsies, and unlike traditional heel creams that focus on removing the hard skin, Heel Chemistry’s innovative formula is designed to hydrate the cracked skin topically whilst rebalancing below-surface hydration to avoid the traditional hard-skin cycle. The formula’s Antarctic Marine Complex is proven to significantly increase skin hydration by up to 90% in fourteen days, while Calendula provides an intensive healing effect for both immediate and long-lasting results. Containing no acids, urea or peeling, Heel Hydration Complex can be used daily to intensely restore dehydrated heels, hands, elbows and any other areas suffering from extreme dryness. I haven’t tried this one but it sounds like a marvel, especially in the lead up top tropical holidays and summer when sandal wearing is a given.

Hand Chemistry is available exclusively in New Zealand right now at Caci Clinics nationwide.

All about: Kérastase Paris Densifique Sérum Jeunesse

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to the truly luxurious Bettjeman’s salon in Orakei for the launch of the first youth activator for hair from Kérastase Paris, Densifique Sérum Jeunesse.
A haircare brand that has long treated hair with the same reverance as the skin, it comes as no surprise that Kérastase Paris have developed a product akin to an anti-ageing serum, but for your locks. Densifique Sérum Jeunesse was created to combat the effects of time on hair quality, restoring hair youth and vitality, with visible results in just 30 days, and its also the first youth activator serum created to compensate the loss of quality due to greying process. The formula contains the most powerful antioxidant complex available for hair (called Anti-Ox Cellular) to help amplify its density, restore shine, strength and suppleness.
A true youth serum, Densifique Sérum Jeunesse preserves the hair's capacity for youthfulness and protects the scalp from the oxidative stress that causes melanin loss. The fibre regains its initial youthfulness and glow, and in just three months, a new type of density comes to the fore. Sound like a bit of you? I know it did to me, and I’ve been using it ever since with amazingly soft-yet-strong results.
So, how do you use it? Kerastase’s Densifique Sérum Jeunesse is applied to clean, towel dried hair, from the mid lengths to the ends and directly on the scalp before styling as desired. Its weightless texture immediately melts into the hair, leaving behind a delicate, 'woody floral' scent - the signature of the Densifique range – that is beautiful but never overpowering.
The Densifique Sérum Jeunesse is the newest addition to Kerastase's Densifique Absolu Collection, which includes a bodifying bath, regenerating masque, a thickening treatment mousse and intense densifing in-salon ritual and arrives in June with an RRP of $90.00.

All about: the Radiance Superfoods range

We all know how easy it is to stay healthy most of the time, but show me something that helps things become even easier and I say: “bring it on!”
That very thing in this case is the Radiance Superfoods range, which is small, perfectly formed and packs a major punch. And it’s not just for those that have a bad diet either – often the produce we buy has been grown on nutrient depleted soil or stored for extended periods of time, so maybe doesn’t pack the nutritional punch of fruit and vegetables from years gone by. The good people have Radiance have come to our rescue with their Superfoods collection of too-easy packets of goodness, searching the globe to find the very best superfoods so you can add gluten free, dairy free, NON GMO, vegan, super nutrition to your diet whenever you want, in a very convenient and delicious way.
The Radiance Superfoods collection includes three green blends – Super Greens, Berry Greens and Super Greens + Cacao – which are vegan protein and probiotic blends that can easily be added to any drink to transform it into a great tasting nutritious drink that is low in calories. Think morning smoothies, afternoon pick-me-up power shakes… the possibilities are endless.
They have also created the perfect range of single ingredient and simple blend, high quality powders that are perfect for adding ahigh powered nutrient kick to meals. The powders can be included in raw sweet treats, smoothies, stews, salad dressings and more, and I’ve been shovelling the chia seeds and Maca powder into my own morning cereal and my small son’s with zero complaint.
Radiance Superfoods Green Blends have an RRP of $27.90, whilst the single ingredients and other blends range from $12.90-$19.50 and a little goes a loooong way.
Radiance Superfoods are available exclusively from Unichem and Life Pharmacies too, making it so damn easy to get a quality healthy fix that it would be seriously rude not to. Get yours now, you definitely won’t regret it!

Love it: CosMedix Purity Solution Cleansing Oil

Anyone that checks in here regularly will know that I’m a huge fan of oils - body oils, hair oils and facials oils - and love the fact that nine times out of ten, they are brilliant multitaskers and are great travel companions too.
Cleansing your face with one is a given with me, but for many oil may seem counterintuitive, especially for those who associate it with breakouts and the like. Well it just ain’t true, and there are more and more great oil-based cleansers arriving on the market all the time that are making their way into bathroom cabinets across the globe.
Cleansing your skin is one of the most important parts of the skincare regimen, and it’s always a good idea to track down a richer, heavier cleanser when the temperature plummets. It can definitely help address the dryness that comes with the cooler air and when used correctly can make a real difference to your skin’s health and wellbeing. Cleansing removes makeup, dirt and debris from the skin. It also helps to cleanse pores (hair follicles actually) of dead skin cells and sebum to help prevent acne.
For aging skin, a cleansing oil can be a great way to help remove makeup, dirt and debris and also to help fight off free radicals that actually cause skin to age quicker.  CosMedix, a skincare line harnessing the power of chiral correction (a purification process that delivers professional grade results without any downtime and reduced irritation), is devoted to helping many different types of skin conditions, all without the use of any harmful ingredients. They have a rather special formula called Purity Solution Nourishing Deep Cleansing Oil that is great for any skin type, and on the principle that oil can cut through oil.
Using a nourishing blend of natural oils and extracts, including Argan Oil, Moringa Oil and anti-oxidant rich Melia Azadirachta Extract, the deep cleansing oil fights off free radicals and also dissolves makeup, excess oil, dirt and debris. It also leaves skin looking absolutely glowing and radiant as it helps get rid of dead skin cells and debris that clogs pores.
The best way to use it I’ve found is to pop three or so pumps on dry hands and apply onto dry skin. Massage it in a circular motion onto areas that are most congested and/or covered in makeup for 20-30 seconds, then wet hands and massage the formula into a milky emulsion. Rinse it off the face with tepid water until no traces remain. I usually give my skin a gentle once over with a warm muslin cloth to really get the last of anything off, then continue with the rest of my routine.
Sound like a bit of you? I reckon it sounds like a bit of everyone! It also has a relatively low RRP of $57.00 for a product of its quality, and for a stockist near you give this number a bell: 0800 238 754

All about: the killer MAC Is Beauty collection

“No appointment required… come in and indulge yourself in a world of pure, delicious vanity, where you can preen supreme… What’s wrong with being a little high-maintenance?”

So says the press quote for the launch of the incred new MAC Is Beauty Collection from MAC Cosmetics, which I was lucky enough to be able to play with yesterday at an exclusive event at their Smith & Caughey’s Queen Street counter. The amazing Sarika gave me an express makeover that was hands down one of the fastest – and most flattering – that I’ve had, and the whole collection is basically an excuse for all out fabulousness.
The MAC Is Beauty Spring 2015 Collection is probably one of the most highly anticipated makeup collections of this season as it offers quite the spectrum of lipstick colours and fluidlines. The collection is vast and includes powders, khol, eye shadows, lipsticks and more, but my pick must be the vast array of aforementioned fluidline options, which they encourage you to use as they were designed and also smudged onto eyelids for an amazingly highly pigmented, long lasting colour. Sarika used “Our Secret” on me, a delicious bronze-y brown shade that seriously lasted the night – and it was a long one!
The full fluidline lineup is:
Ivy – fresh leaf green
Looking Good – Sparkly Burgundy
Deliciously Rich – shimmering dirty taupe
Lowlights – deep deep brown
Midnight Snack – deep metal grey
Our Secret – metalic brown w/ red pearl
Waveline – navy gold pearl
Blacktrack - blackest black
Copperthorn – bronze copper
Blitz & Glitz – intense black with gold pearl
Brassy – brassy gold
Silverstroke – silver
Macroviolet – sparkly purple
Shade – deep green
Siahi – ocean blue
Blue Peep – bleu turquoise

And all look as good as they sound! The collection is on counter now just begging to be tested, bought and played with extensively, so I highly recommend a trip to your nearest MAC destination to do all of the above!
