All about: the magical BECCA The One Perfecting Brush

I’ve gone officially bonkers for BECCA’s The One Perfecting Brush, which is going to change lives for beauty lovers everywhere if an initial play is anything to go by! A true beauty multitasker, it cuts makeup application time in half by replacing 10 other brushes and tools, and can easily be used with liquids, creams, powders and anything in between. It’s made of non-porous, high-quality goat hair that allows product to sit on top of bristles rather than absorbing, ensuring a seamless application with no wasted product whether you’re using it as a foundation brush, powder brush, contour brush, bronzer brush, stipple brush, blush brush, fan brush, concealer brush, kabuki, or sponge (I think that’s the lot?).
The bristles are tightly packed in a 3.5 inch horizontal design so you can evenly cover larger or smaller surface areas, and the density of the brush creates a smooth, even, and almost ‘airbrushed’ looking application - love that. Flat edges fit the linear contours of your face, while curved corners allow for targeted, more precise application, and it is seriously the only brush I’m going to be taking on holiday in the near future - hello, tiny makeup bag!
To use it with foundation choose the broad side of the brush, sweeping foundation horizontally across the forehead and then moving on to cheeks and chin.
Finish by sweeping vertically down the nose using the narrow surface of the brush.

With highlighter, use the narrow surface of the brush to sweep your chosen illuminator down the tops of cheekbones and down the bridge of nose.
With mineral bronzing powder or contour enhancer use the narrow surface of the brush and sweep under cheekbones, down the sides of the nose, and around the temples.

With blush or BECCA beach tint, use the corner of the brush to buff product into the apples of cheeks using a circular motion and blend out.

Perfect for travel and a great stocking filler for the beauty freak in your life, The One Perfecting Brush is available right now in New Zealand from Apotheka

All about: Kismet Opulent one-night Body Bronzer

Called “liquid gold” by some fans, Kismet Opulent Body Bronzer is the first in the Kismet line to appear and is already gaining cult status everywhere it’s sold.
The creation of New Orleans-based Caitlin Picou, it is the perfect partner for the party season as it’s a seriously great “one-night highlight” that gives your skin a natural-looking, bronze glow without rubbing off on clothes or streaking - and having used it more than a few times now I can vouch for both!
Opulent is also incredibly quick-drying (five minutes in my experience), which is a major bonus when you’re in a rush and just need to get dressed and out now. It is also infused with aloe vera, chamomile and green tea to help moisturise and provide a luminous finish, and is non-greasy and pretty much absorbs before your eyes. It is great for topping up a spray tan for an extended faux glow, and also for filling in any tan lines that just aren’t working with your current sartorial choice. To remove, simply rinse it off in the shower - I use a sponge for any stubborn areas - and you’re all done. Too easy!  Oh, and it smells in-credible…
Kismet Opulent has an RRP of $39.00 and is available in New Zealand from Glamour Boutique.

Beauty news: the Facial Radiance glow hits the road

At this time of the year it’s almost too hard to get yourself organised for any kind of pamper time, and the chance of a reaction to products is not ideal when the party invite list starts ramping up and every minute counts.
One way to avoid all of the above is by having a facial of sorts executed without the use of any products at all, which you can do with Lynda Davenport. She and her magic hands go under the name Facial Radiance, and can be found in several inner city locations and also - as of this week - on the road as a service that comes to your home. Genius!
Lynda has been immersed in the field of Natural Beauty and Energy Healing for over 15 years. With an intense belief in the balance and flow of energy and how it contributes to our overall wellbeing, she has combined these principals into Facial Radiance for one very different beauty treatment.
The technique was first introduced many years ago by Stanley Rosenburg, who called it “Face-lifting Massage”. He was a firm believer that “your face is the mirror of your soul”, and that through the process of releasing our old facial tensions, we free up new reserves of physical, mental and emotional energy. Lynda has added some of her own flourishes to create Facial Radiance, which is essentially a treatment for your face, head and neck that reduces and prevents the ageing process, releasing stress dramatically and bringing your whole self “back into radiance”. She has told me that the main reason that your face will be really rather transformed after a few sessions is that “around 80 per cent of stress is held in the face and neck, which adds to the ageing process and interrupts the other processes in your body”. In other words, the likes of lines, furrows and sagging are the consequence of muscles that retain accumulated stress from a lifetime of events and emotions. When this stress is worked on and somewhat released, the blood flow to your face, circulation and lymphatic flow are increased, making for increased collagen production (the thing all of those wonder creams promise to do but don’t often deliver) and super clear skin.
The delicious treatment lasts an hour, and it will complement any skincare range and facial treatments, including the healing process post cosmetic surgery. It also helps Botox and fillers like Juvaderm go that much farther, and I for one can vouch that it’s just heaven to experience.
So what will you see after a Facial Radiance Treatment? After just one you’ll notice immediately how plump and toned your skin looks, which is amazing considering not a single cream or serum is applied. After a course you’ll start to see some long-term results, and with a head and foot massage to end each session it’s also as relaxing as it gets.
Head to Lynda’s website if you’d like to book in for a session at home, and vouchers also make for stellar Christmas gifts.

Christmas countdown: Ecoya… gifting done beautifully

New Zealand-based fragrance specialists Ecoya are our very own masters of gifting in my humble opinion, creating beautiful seasonal scents and lust-worthy gifting options of their own each year. This Christmas Ecoya’s Limited Edition Christmas Collection combines festive fragranced candles and iconic Ecoya scented gift boxes – both artfully crafted to create a luxurious blend of natural products that promise to “unleash sensual journeys to past memories and festive dreams”. If that doesn’t sound like a right treat then I don’t know what does!
First up I’d love to talk about the two luxurious Limited Edition Madison Jar Christmas Candles that are available, which come housed in a silver-dipped glass jar with a mirrored lid. One is the truly traditional-with-a-twist Fresh Pine Needles, which is designed to evoke the aroma of freshly cut pine trees rounded by hints of citrus and rosewood. The other is the warm, luscious Caramelised Plum Pudding, a decadent riot of scent reminiscent of sweet, dried fruit, pudding and creamy caramel sauce - the perfect way to recreate the feel of a Northern Hemisphere Christmas and all of the cosiness that comes with it.
They have also created a large and small sized floral accented gift boxes that combine home fragrance and body care products with the iconic Ecoya scents of Lotus Flower and French Pear, wrapped in a snakeskin-inspired design that features the work of Philippines-based mixed media illustrator Daryl Feril. Very covetable, very easy gifting done beautifully…

Christmas countdown: Moët, Veuve, Dom.. champagne all round!

For me champagne will always be synonymous with celebration and happy times - one of the first things I did when I found out I was one year cancer free was pop the cork on a bottle of Moët & Chandon, with every drop truly savoured!
Naturally Christmas is all about celebration, and the warmer months in New Zealand make a glass of champagne one of the most perfect options on a long, hot summer’s day. Champagne also makes for a gift that will never be unwanted, and this year Moët Hennessy has announced the release of a fabulous selection of decadent gift sets to make things about as easy as it gets. They have 21 sets covering champagne, cognac, whisky, wine and vodka, but I’m hear to talk about the former, which is full of all manner of quirky and clever options.
The Moët & Chandon Diamond Suit is a beautiful pick at RRP $59.99, with the iconic Moët & Chandon Impérial housed in a gorgeous gold Diamond Suit that is not only looks a treat but keeps your champagne chilled as well. The End Of Year Festive gift is the same price, but comes in a festive box in champagne and gold colours with elegant diamond accents. Oh, and it also comes as a duo because quite frankly, one is often never enough! Next up, the Moët & Chandon Golden Glimmer Chiller is a lacquered metal box holding a 750ml bottle of Moët Impérial that has chiller functionality to keep your champagne cool for up to two hours and is happily reusable.
Taking things up a notch, the Veuve Clicquot Silver Fridge is an absolute beauty. It has an RRP of $74.99 and draws inspiration from the iconic 1950s-style fridge. It keeps your chilled bottle of Veuve Clicquot cold for two hours and is perfect for a little luxe picnic anytime, anywhere. For the lovers of eco luxe out there Veuve also offer Naturally Clicquot, a solid, lightweight, ecologically responsible, easy to carry option designed by Cedric Ragout. Created from 100 per cent biodegradable material such as potato starch and recycled paper, it’s pretty damn stylish, too.
Last but by no means least is the heavenly Dom Pérignon x Jeff Koons 2004 vintage (above). With an RRP $219.90 it makes for a killer gift forlovers of contemporary art and fine champagne, and it’s shot straight to the top of my Christmas list with a bullet!

Love it: Kevin Murphy YOUNG.AGAIN wash, rinse and masque

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to meet - and get a killer blow wave from - Kevin Murphy Educator Nathan Gorman. A veritable goldmine of hair tips and tricks, Nathan worked in London before moving to Portugal to direct hair and makeup for film and TV, then joined the KEVIN.MURPHY team in 2010. He has been Kevin’s “right hand man” ever since with good reason, and is incredibly charming to boot.
The occasion was the arrival of the brand’s YOUNG.AGAIN wash, rinse and masque, an inevitable creation after the runaway success of the original YOUNG.AGAIN, an anti-ageing treatment oil that offers exfoliation properties to expose fresh, clean hair every time you use it. The new arrivals have been created in order to further help combat the aging process of hair, and were designed to “help renew youthful lustre and shine” to dry, damaged or brittle hair.
YOUNG.AGAIN wash is an Immortelle and Baobab-infused restorative softening shampoo that works to both cleanse and prep the hair to receive the essential ingredients of the masque and the rinse. The rinse is formulated to lock down the cuticle and lock in moisture, and the masque to address all the factors that relate to the premature aging of hair. I only use the masque about once a week for a little extra TLC, and I love the fact that I can leave about 20 per cent of the conditioner in my hair post-wash as a leave-in (thanks for the tip, Nathan!) and it smells delicious.
The key ingredients in the range that were chosen for their longevity and resilience are:
Six Australian rainforest fruit extracts that are rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids, as well as shown to flourish despite the harsh climatic conditions.
Baobab seed oil  to provide moisturising benefits to the hair while improving elasticity and tone.
Orchid flower extract, which is rich in proteins, reinforces hair strength and provides intense hydration.
Immortelle for its extraordinary healing qualities and great regenerating ability
Lotus flower extract  to protect the hair from moisture loss, leaving hair soft and supple
Kakadu plum extracts for the repair of damaged hair.
Phospholipids to create a skin-like barrier to lock in moisture.
Bamboo extract due to its restorative effects and ability to add natural shine and lustre to the hair.

All of these work together to elicit some pretty amazing results, so if your hair is in need of an anti-ageing regime all of its own then I highly recommend that you check it out!

Love it: Osmosis Colour's creamy, dreamy lip liners

It takes a lot for a lip liner to really impress me - I’m a devout wearer of this often-ignored essential beauty step and must have tried a thousand or more in my lifetime. One that has seen me fall for it after just one day’s wear however is the new release from US skincare and now also makeup company Osmosis, which comes in the form of three lip pencils that are the perfect combination of long wearing and richly pigmented - love that!
Creamy enough to be used all over, they are the perfect pick for a full kissable pout with Nude for a subtle base, Delicate Rose for a soft touch of colour, or Sangria for a deep, rich look.
These lip pencils have mega stay-put factor and thus far definitely don’t creep outside the lipline, and all three colours can easily be adapted for most skin tones. They feel a dream, look top notch and are available now!

Beauty news: M.A.C loves the magnificent Maleficent

There is definitely something to be said for Angelina Jolie’s marvellous Maleficent, with her perfectly arched eyebrows, piercing bright green eyes and blood-red lips. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that M.A.C Cosmetics has created a capsule collection to complement Disney's highly anticipated live-action "Sleeping Beauty" remake, and that it will inevitably be a huge hit for the brand.
This isn't the first time that M.A.C has used "Maleficent" as their muse. The company released a killer "Venomous Villain" collection in Fall 2010 inspired by four characters: Cruella de Vil, "Snow White's" Evil Queen, "The Princess and the Frog's" De Falicier, and  "Sleeping Beauty's" Maleficent.
The company has yet to debut the collection's photos, but I’m expecting a collection focused on dark, dramatic and eye-catching colours that mix glam with more than a touch of luxe goth. Toni G was Jolie's makeup artist on set, and legendary special makeup effects artist Rick Baker created added elements to complete Jolie's character look.
The eleven-piece assortment will have its global debut next Northern summer, and include face, eye, lip and nail products. M.A.C summed up the new product line in a few striking words: "Being bad never looked so good…” and I could not agree more.

All about: New Zealand's own Verité Spa Organics

A few weeks ago now I was contacted by a New Zealand beauty company called Verité Spa Organics after professing my love for the scent of roses on Twitter. Little did I know that I would soon fall in love with the beautiful, rose-scented goodies that I was lucky enough to try soon after - and recommend to everyone I meet!
Created by aromatherapist and mum Janin Dei-Conti, it is a well-edited range of products that are expertly hand blended in New Zealand in small batches in order to “maintain their potency and effectiveness”. Only the highest grade certified organic, wild crafted organic and natural ingredients are used in their production processes, and their violet glass bottles not only look absolutely gorgeous but have a practical function too. By choosing dark violet miron glass bottles, the precious plant essences are preserved for longer - and they recycle beautifully once you’re finished. Also, according to research, violet is the colour that shows the vibration frequency of 720 – 770 billion Hertz, which matches the vibration frequency of a human’s central nervous system. I have chosen this particular glass to preserve not only the products better, but to enhance and preserve the delicate vibrational energy of the organic plant essences within so they continue to work at optimum performance on the skin until the last drop,” says Janin.
The products are all free of toxic preservatives (but they do use ecocert approved preservatives to prevent unseen bacteria growing), synthetic fragrances, colourants, parabens, SLS, pthalates, oxylates, mineral oils and petrolatum in any of their products. Oh, and to say they smell like pure heaven would be a vast understatement!
Which brings me back to the rose-scented goodies that I’ve had on the go, which include the most fragrant of Rose bubble baths - a riot of pure Rose absolute, Geranium and Citrus oils - and a luxurious Rose Absolute Serum, which is balancing and soothing for dry and ageing skin. Next on my shopping list is the Cypress & Mint Detox Bath Salts - which sound like just the ticket at this time of year - and the multi-use Jojoba & Olive Cleansing Balm, a luxe way to end the day if ever there was one!
To find out more about this exquisite wee brand head to at www.veritespa.co.nz.

Love: Jo Malone's fragrant Christmas wonderland

Christmas is most definitely a time for giving, and if you’ve got a beauty freak in your life then the possibilities are endless. Some beauty companies ‘do’ the festive season much better than others, and one of my first ports of call is conveniently smack bang in the middle of Britomart - Jo Malone.
Jo Malone is a company that has been synonymous with covetable, luxurious gifting since the moment that first bought one of their famous scents to life, and each Christmas they truly excel. This year it’s a Blue Christmas for the modern British icon, with blue baubles and hints of blue fir putting much emphasis on their light and bright new Blue Spruce scent – a riot of festive gorgeousness if ever their was one! It’s available as a Deluxe Candle for $395, a real investment but one that will keep on giving for months to come. There is also a truly decadent, carol-worthy Pine & Eucalyptus Luxury Candle available that is a whopping 2.5kg and comes with an RRP of $840, whilst the same festive scent also comes in the form of a home candle, Scent Surround Diffuser and Room Spray. If you’ve opted for a faux Christmas tree this year then this scent is for you - your home will be awash with the scent of pine but without the dropped needles, hayfever and messy disposal that are part and parcel of the real thing! For sharing the festive spirit en masse I love Jo Malone’s Christmas Crackers as the perfect stocking filler or luxe table setting, each containing Grapefruit body creme (15ml), Lime, Basil and Mandarin body and hand wash (15ml) and Blackberry & Bay cologne (9ml). They have also created very cute Christmas tree ‘ornament’ gifts containing English Pear & Freesia (15ml) body creme and Pomegranate Noir cologne (15ml), which will definitely be appreciated come December 25.
It goes without saying that the gift wrapping is done for you - major bonus! - too, with all Jo Malone goodies dispensed all wrapped up with the distinctive black and cream striped Jo Malone bows. Just beautiful!

Love it: the Bobbi Brown X Lulu Frost super luxe compact

I love pulling out a beautiful mirror for touch ups on the go, and when your mirror compact is as luxe and dazzling as Bobbi Brown’s new one for holiday 2013, who could keep it in their purse? The bejeweled, gilded case was created in collaboration with Lulu Frost, and is in store now and exclusive to Bobbi Brown Britomart in New Zealand. The limited edition piece of gorgeousness  will sit alongside the Old Hollywood Collection for Christmas gift giving.
Lisa Salzer, the talented bijoux designer behind Lulu Frost, said the partnership with the Bobbi Brown came about completely organically. “She bought a necklace of mine and wore it out to a wedding and loved it,” she told ELLE.com. “She actually called us afterwards and from then on, a great relationship was born.” When Bobbi Brown decided to base her holiday collection around Old Hollywood, a collaboration between the two was inevitable.
The mirror’s design was reportedly inspired by one of Bobbi’s old compacts that she had collected at a flea market, so Salzer “took that and created one that was encrusted with an Art Deco pattern of Swarovski crystals on top. I love Deco. It’s so classic, the craftsmanship is incredible, and there’s also a geometry to it that’s very cool.”
The Bobbi Brown X Lulu Frost is in store now and retails for $400.00.

What a steal: Schwarzkopf Extra Care Dry Oil Mist

I was all over dry shampoo when it first made a major resurgence in popularity just over two years ago, and loved the concept of dry conditioner when it joined the party last year. The former gives my blow waves lives of their own long past the usual expiration date, whilst the latter is an absolute necessity for those with highlights who want to keep things sleek on the ends.
I’m always on the lookout for new releases of both now-essential hair styling items, so was excited to get to try the Schwarzkopf Extra Care Dry Range, the latest addition to the brand’s super popular, wallet-friendly Extra Care range. The range features three products: Extra Care Dry Shampoo,  Dry Conditioner and - wait for it! - Dry Oil Mist.
The third in the trio was the one that got me really intrigued, and I instantly became a raving fan. The first Dry Oil Mist product in the New Zealand market, it detangles and smooths fly-aways and adds instant shine for a sleek, finished look. Enriched with Miracle Argan Oil, it provides an ultra-light weight formula which repairs and nourishes the hair structure, leaving it naturally smooth and healthy.  It is so easy to use and will make the perfect companion for beach trips this summer, giving back the love that the sun, sand and sea salt will take away from your locks. Better yet? It’s a solid gold beauty steal at just $7.99!

All about: Sávar’s Jet Set Travel Treats

When I travelled to France back in late-July of this year there’s one product I most definitely wish I’d had tucked in my bag: New Zealand brand Sávar’s brand new Jet Set Travel Treats.

Love it: the NARS / Guy Bourdin Holiday collection

I have been a fan of the work of uber-photographer Guy Bourdin for what feels like an eternity, so when I heard that the similarly-inspired-by-Bourdin François Nars was planning on paying homage to the photographer with a high-wattage holiday collection I was beyond excited. When I read more about it in the latest issue of Allure magazine my joy reached fever pitch, so when I finally got my hands on a few select pieces earlier this week I couldn’t wait to play with - and write about - them.
For those of you unfamiliar with the work of Bourdin, he seriously revolutionized fashion photography with unconventional narratives and overt sexuality. His relentless rule breaking served as the apex of the sexually charged fashion photography of the ’70s - alongside the equally amazing Helmut Newton. Today, he continues to be both an inspiration to and a favourite of major designers, photographers, art directors, stylists, and tastemakers.
As a child, NARS Founder and Creative Director François discovered Guy Bourdin’s work in the pages of French Vogue, and it was then that he was first inspired to become a makeup artist. Major! So when all these years later he embarked upon creating a makeup line in homage to his hero it was always going to be spectacular, and the Holiday 2013 collection definitely does not disappoint.
He has created an entire limited edition collection in the spirit of Bourdin, and it’s as bold and beautiful as the fashion name’s work. It’s also a fitting homage, given Bourdin’s reputation for being heavily invested in the beauty looks for his pictures: He would inspect the hair and makeup before he even began shooting. “It was a big production, and it always started with the model and the makeup,” said Bourdin’s son Samuel at a preview of the collection in Paris.
Bourdin’s influence is present in all aspects of the limited edition collection, from products and packaging, to colors and shade names. I’ve been wearing the Last Tango limited edition Cinematic Lipstick and have fallen in love with it. It’s a little more subtle than some of the more high impact shades on offer, but still delivers intense colour saturation with a gorgeously glossy shine. As high impact as it gets, it is enriched with Monoï butter and Vitamin E as well for some great moistursition.
For a true blue, ultra sexy Bourdin look my pick is the Coeur Battant blush, which is designed to make a serious statement. Use it on the high point of the cheek to create lift and direction towards the eye, as well as major sass.
The NARS / Guy Bourdin Holiday collection is in now at Mecca Cosmetica.

All about: the rather yum little bird Spring Clean

Years ago I first came across the Little Bird brand when I bought - far too many times - bags of their highly addictive macaroons from a little stand in my yoga teacher’s studio. I loved the fact that they were a delicious treat without many of the negatives usually involved with a little indulgence, and their creator, Megan May was truly inspiring.
Fast forward a few years and on a more-than-regular basis you’ll find me sitting in Megan’s newly opened Little Bird Unbakery at 1a Summer Street - the second in the stable after she opened the first in Kinglsland not too long ago. To say the latter was a runaway success is putting it mildly, and despite the fact that Little Bird started with very little money behind it the brand took on a life of its own.
Since the brand took off people have been hassling Megan for recipes and whatnot, and now the extremely clever and rather fabulous woman has developed a cleanse that has been getting major props from all those who embark on it - no surprise there! Available as a one, three or five day option, the little bird Spring Clean consists of six juices and smoothies and one raw organic salad to cap off your day. The six juices and smoothies are designed to “provide you with raw, alkalising and revitalising goodness that will give your digestion a rest”, all the while providing your body with a high density of vitamins, essential minerals, antioxidants and enzymes.
For many years I stuck to a juice fast each and every Monday, and cleansing systems like this remind me why I should get back into it and start doing exactly that right now. It’s great to give your body a rest from putting so much work into digesting heavy winter foods, as well as a shot of high levels of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to strengthen the immune system, increase energy and leave you with a clearer mind and cleaner insides. If you eat well and maintain a healthy body and mind most of the time then a one day clean out is all that’s needed, but it’s great that little bird have a five day option available for when you really need a full body re-set of sorts.
I particularly love that they provide you with a salad to wrap up your day - both on an emotional and physical level.  A light kale and greens salad with avocado, beetroot noodles, cleansing sea vegetables and fermented vegetables, it provides you with a good amount of fibre and nutrients to help keep things in the body moving and leaves you satisfied to sleep easy - as well as a feeling of getting a little ‘reward’ for lasting the day.
It goes without saying that you will get maximum benefit out of your little bird cleanse - or any cleanse - if you stay away from coffee, alcohol and heavy foods for a few days prior to commencement, so step away from the pinot, steak and long black and get ordering… your body will most definitely thank you for it!
For more info go to http://littlebirdorganics.co.nz/ - I for one can’t wait to give this a try.

Beauty news: Skinfood gets a brand new makeover

Now over ten years old, the Skinfood brand was one of the first in the country to offer New Zealand made skincare that was paraben free and used natural-based ingredients at an affordable price that often had to be seen to be believed.
The skincare experts behind the brand recently announced a long overdue makeover for Skinfood, which was still around but had been swamped by the influx of similar products from overseas and a slew of eco-friendly beauty options. They took the makeover pretty seriously with all that in mind, re-launching with new look packaging alongside updated recipes and some exciting new developments. They have taken inspiration from the fantastic innovations and resources in natural skincare that the industry has welcomed over the past decade, with the end result being premium quality, yet affordable skincare inspired by nature, and made with the finest food and natural-based ingredients.
A few tasty new additions can now be found across the 15-product range like goji berries, coconut, avocado, and blackcurrants – superhero-type ingredients that give skin much-needed nutrients. Skinfood Body Butter now contains mango butter, manuka honey and macadamia nut oil for soft, supple skin; while their Exfoliating Scrub now boasts cucumber extract, walnut shell, aloe vera and lime, to clear and cleanse.
This month sees the release of Skinfood Body Bars in four delicious flavours: Nourishing (rosehip, orange, wheatgerm and apricot), Cleansing (Manuka Honey, lime and avocado), Exfoliating (ground macadamia shell, sweet almond and orange), and Mud & Honey (natural volcanic mud and Manuka Honey).  My pick of the range so far however is an absolute beauty ‘steal’ in the form of the Skinfood Tanning Moisturiser (pictured above), a gradual tanner with rosehip and sunflower oil, rosemary and sweet almond that has an insanely good RRP at just $13.99. Get yours now!

Love it and want it: the super slick ghd white eclipse

When it comes to Christmas many of us are dreaming of a total white out, but Down Under that is a near impossibility as far as I know! The next best thing to a one way ticket to New York this December 24 however comes in the form of the ghd white eclipse,  a limited high shine version of the already-iconic hair tool that just screams understated chic.
The glossy white beauty has the same ground breaking tri-zone technology as the original, and is thus far the slickest and most covetable christmas beauty gift I’ve seen so far this silly season!
It is in store now with an RRP of NZD $350.00.

Beauty news: essie is here, and even better than before

I have always been a big fan of essie nail polish and nailcare products, buying them overseas when I could and then on a regular basis when they arrived here a few years ago. To say that their Apricot Cuticle Oil is one of my all time favourite beauty products would be an understatement, and their famous Ballet Slippers shade of pale, milky pink is the ultimate nude.
Clearly I’m not alone in my adoration of essie as well - Kate Middleton chose to wear Allure to her nuptials last year, Lady Gaga paired Merino Cool with her infamous meat dress and Angeline Jolie adores Mademoiselle. The brand has been around for more than 30 years with good reason, and after L’Oréal took it on is re-launching with a larger range of shades, care products and wider distribution. Hurrah to that!
There are now 100 colour shades to choose from and L’Oréal is launching a new and improved formula. The new, thicker formula combined with a wider paddle-style brush means quicker application and a smoother finish, and I for one am going to be going crazy with it this summer when sandal season finally hits!

All about: Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel

It’s that time of the year when you’re emerging from your winter cocoon and usually in need of a little shake up in some shape or form, and your skin is no different. A season spent indoors by a heater or in air con will have dulled even the freshest of complexions, so it’s time to pull out the big guns to get your radiance sparking again.
One new beauty that’s designed to awaken tired, dull skin is Murad’s Intensive-C Radiance Peel, which the highly respected skin specialists call an “at home spa treatment that dramatically reverses environmental aging caused by sun, smog and pollution” - I like the sound of that!
Part of their Environmental Shield range, it’s a powerful little number containing Vitamin C and Indian Fig that work together to stop free radical damage and enhance skin clarity, while Myrtle Extract supports collagen production to give skin extra resilience and elasticity. It's a triple threat that brightens, smoothes and hydrates skin in just one treatment, using Glycolic Acid to gently exfoliate skin and accelerate the turnover of damaged cells.
Murad’s Intensive-C Radiance Peel is designed to be used up to twice a week (with my sensitive skin I’ve kept it to once for now) and is a ten minute-long exercise session for the skin if ever there was one. Easy to use and delivers results? Music to the ears.

Love it: Chanel Rouge Double Intensité lipstick

When it comes to lips, how does “glorious long-lasting colour paired with high-shine gloss” sound to you? Add to that “delivers full-coverage colour that lasts all day” and the name Chanel, and you have my absolute favourite lip look for right now.
Known as Rouge Double Intensité, it first a liquid lipstick with a formula that is concentrated with micronized pigments and rich in polymers. Think major pigment payoff and colour that lasts - magic. Volatile oils give it rapid, no-transfer drying to boot, and I've been doing some major days-into-evenings with this formula with zero complaints.
But wait, there’s more: it is also a transparent gloss. Used as a top coat, it adds an ultra-shiny layer, ensures comfort and revives colour for more intensity with major hydration.
Pack it all into a travel-friendly tube and you have a handbag essential, which was actually launched a couple years back with a small collection but has now had a major revamp. Chanel Rouge Double Intensité now comes in ten beautiful shades, which are:
39 Coral Crush: a must-have coral, with a touch of golden pearl
40 Light Rose: a classic bluish pink
41 Bright Rose: a delicate pink with bronze shimmer
42 Intense Beige: a taupe-y beige
43  Sensual Rose: a striking pink
44 Dazzling Bronze: a magnetic metallic bronze
45 Silky Rose: an iridescent, intense pink
46 Deep Rose: a subtle plum.
48 Soft Rose: a gentle brownish pink.
49 Ever Red: a classic brick red
Even better yet - these beauties are on counter right now!

Love it: The Organic Skin Co.’s stellar eye shadows

I was intrigued by the World Organic brand from the moment I heard about it - in particular their stance on using beautiful, conscious ingredients and manufacturing practises, and the background of their knowledgeable and warm founder, Megan Douglas.
From an early age, Megan was interested in natural health, learning to make remedies at the back of her grandmother Jennie’s New Zealand health food shop and working during school holidays at what was then her family’s health supplies business, Red Seal, helping out in the manufacturing lab. Later, after a successful career in London as a model and fashion designer, Megan renewed her interest in natural health and wellbeing, travelling to India where she learnt much about Ayurvedic beliefs and medical practice. After returning home she supplemented the knowledge gained in India by completing a degree in Herbal Medicine and Naturopathy and began working seriously on the birth of World Organic. Her core philosophy of providing “ethically produced, high quality, organic products that benefit everyone, body and soul” is one that I wholeheartedly agree with, and the company constantly turns out absolutely stellar products.
Part of the World Organic collective of brands, The Organic Skin Co. is home to a beautiful makeup collection that is as kind and gentle as it is on the skin and the planet as it is effective. I have absolutely fallen in love with their mineral eye shadow formula, which is velvety-smooth, artisan pressed and available in a riot of gorgeous shades. Infused with organic supercritical extracts, it delivers pure, natural botanical beauty with great colour payoff to boot!
I’ve been playing with Midnight - a shimmering deeply intense dark aubergine, above - as well as Orchid, a shimmering rose pink that complements its darker sister perfectly for a summer smokey eye. The pigments are as good as some of the industry’s most ‘serious’ makeup brands and blend incredibly well. The fact that they are pressed is an added bonus when it comes to travel and general handbag-friendliness, and they can be used dry as a shadow or wet as an eyeliner - bonus!
They also come housed in the most beautiful packaging, as is everything else in the range. My next trial will be of their cream blush, but if you want to see more of their beautiful products all in one place visit here.
