Daily delight: Rihanna for Harper’s Bazaar China

All about: Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate

Some beauty insiders call them an afterthought, but I believe that a skincare regime isn’t complete without a great eye serum, gel or cream. The skin around the eyes is the thinnest you’ll find on your body as well as having fewer oil glands than the rest of the face, so needs extra special care when and where it can get it.
Most good eye creams and serums are formulated specifically for the skin around the eye, so tend to be a little richer and packed with active ingredients aimed at issues associated with that area. It is more fragile, more prone to dryness, and quicker to show age and fatigue. Squinting can hasten the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and fluids collect under the eyes and cause puffiness and dark circles.
A good eye-specific product can address at least some of these issues, but first make sure you are applying it for optimal effect. First, don’t over do it. Follow instructions and go gentle - patting in with your ring finger is the best forms of application for this most fragile of areas, and allows your chosen product some time to sink in.
Which brings me to the newest formula that I’ve been lucky enough to have a play with, which focuses directly on friction delivered to the delicate eye area. From the masterminds at Shiseido and known as Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate, it has a 24 hour moisturising formula that helps to prevent signs of ageing such as dryness, visible wrinkles and loss of resilience for skin that is left looking smooth, radiant and firm.
The formula’s “Smoothing Defense Complex” protects skin from friction like a shield, whilst other essential ingredients moisturise and help prevent oxidation. ImuGeneration Technology is the final piece in the puzzle, a powerful cocktail that contains botanical extracts of Reishi Mushroom and Iris Root, to continuously fortify skin’s ability to defend itself.
The silky-feeling gel is a pre-treatment that absorbs instantly to smooth, hydrate, and visibly brightens the delicate skin around eyes for a full 24 hours, and targets those all-important issues such as dryness, dark circles and fine lines. You apply it morning and evening after cleansing and balancing skin and before your regular eye treatment, and it the dermatologist-tested formula is also a star when used prior to concealer to prevent creasing. Like most J-beauty offerings it also looks gorgeous in the bottle, and is destined not to be hidden away in a bathroom cabinet.
It comes with a light floral fragrance with hints of rose and lotus to “help relieve stress and soothe the senses”, so if you’re averse to fragrance in your skincare then this is not for you. If you’re all good with it then by all means go forth and give it a go – like all Shiseido offerings, it comes highly recommended!
Suitable for all skin types, Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate is available right now with an RRP of $119.

Love it: MAKETHEMAKE's stellar makeup brushes

When I first met with the lovely – and super passionate! – Catherine Tong from Scandi beauty hub, The Skin Wardrobe, the first brand she told me about was MAKETHEMAKE.
Makeup-infused skincare, formulated and designed by skin therapists, MAKETHEMAKE is a company that understands and focuses on ways to optimise the skin’s overall health as well as creating a flawless finish. All of the brand’s products contain scientifically proven, highly active ingredients, and founder Annica Forsgren (a friend of Catherine’s) sees MAKETHEMAKE’s offering as a true extension to your skincare routine as it creates a flawless base to build upon. The award-winning range includes products suitable for all skin types and skin tones, as well as multitasking marvels that focus on simplifying your routine and making the most of your natural beauty.
The element of MAKETHEMAKE’s offering that I’ve been lucky enough to be able to play with is their foundation brush, one of a set of custom designed, high quality makeup brushes designed with natural beauty in mind. The new innovation in brush design and application technique gives your skin a natural, ’soft focus’ look, and they are big on aesthetics as well as performance. The brushes are designed with user friendliness in mind, and definitely won’t disappear into a cluttered bathroom drawer anytime soon.
All MAKETHEMAKE brushes are made of Taklon – a vegan synthetic fibre designed to give a better user experience than natural hair does. The off-white bristles are placed extremely tightly together to deliver as soft and precise a result as possible, regardless which level of coverage you go for, or even what products you use. Taklon has a smoother surface than natural hair, which is why it’s a more hygienic choice of material. Due to the surface being more difficult for bacteria to attach to, it is also super easy to clean, especially when you use MAKETHEMAKE’s simple but super effective brush cleaning bowl, which is a veritable game-changer if you’re a reluctant/lazy regular brush cleaner like me! The bristles in the brushes have different levels of coarseness, making them perfect for picking up the product and dispersing an optimal amount onto your skin upon application. In addition, the short shaft allows for close, precision application and fits easily into any make-up bag, whilst the flat bottom of the shaft means it can stand up between applications. Genius!
I love that each MAKETHEMAKE brush comes in a practical, resealable bag where you can store them when not in use, which is both hygienic and protects the brushes to protect their lifespan. You can also use the beautifully designed official Brush Bag for storing other makeup items, and it’s brilliant for travel and when you’re on-the-go. I’ve found the foundation brush I have been using an absolute breeze to use, especially after I nailed the application technique designed to work with it that I watched online. Once you’ve tried it you seriously won’t be able to give it up, and its minimalist Scandinavian style makes the experience all the sweeter.
Lastly, the brand is super affordable given the time and energy that has been put into each product before it comes to market, and I for one can’t wait to explore more. To find out more about the brand and what else Catherine has curated for exclusive distribution in New Zealand, head here.

All about: PREVAGE’s Progressive Renewal Treatment peel

Despite the negative publicity that emerged following their initial arrival in the general beauty realm over ten years ago, I think that peels are an absolute essential for healthy, happy skin. They are no longer the scary numbers that caused all those shocking ‘after’ pics that once littered the internet, and high performance formulas from tried and tested brands are the ideal skin refreshing treatment, and able to treat all skin types and concerns. They deliver instant results with very little irritation, and really do have the power to dramatically transform skin.
One stellar peel system to have arrived on counters over the past few months is from PREVAGE, and takes the form of the Progressive Renewal Treatment. Designed to “redefine skincare peels”, it is a powerful four-week resurfacing regimen that gently exfoliates surface skin cells and enhances natural cell turnover.  Featuring the brand’s newest breakthrough in peel technology, Polyhydroxy Acid, freshly mixed with their powerful, signature antioxidant, Idebenone, the PREVAGE Progressive Renewal Treatment helps jumpstart skin renewal as well as protect newly-revealed skin cells from environmental aggressors.  The end result is skin that is fresh, glowing, and evenly toned.
It works by using a unique system of four progressively stronger formulas. Each ampoule contains a seven-day supply and every week the formula becomes more powerful—optimising efficacy and minimising the potential for irritation. This ensures skin will neither freak out nor act up, and you can see results almost as they happen.
On the ingredient front, the Progressive Renewal Treatment is composed of four complementary elements to address visible signs of ageing and lacklustre tone: Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA), Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Idebenone, and a pH Buffer. PHA and AHA resurface the skin as they exfoliate, gently sloughing off dead skin cells and enhancing natural cell turnover.  PHA is a new age Hydroxy Acid that has been called a game-changer for sensitive skin because its larger molecule size is less irritating and more moisturising.  Each ampoule delivers increasingly higher concentrations of Hydroxy Acids that prepare skin over time for optimal resurfacing benefits with less potential for irritation. The pH buffering Phosphate Salts in the formula help maintain low pH on skin during use so that the low pH formula can more effectively resurface skin, whilst Idebenone helps to protect against environmental aggressors that lead to the visible signs of premature ageing. Pretty amazing huh?
To see the results yourself, start with the Phase 1 ampoule, pressing the button to release the Idebenone from the ampoule cap.  Shake evenly until mixed, then replace the cap with the dropper.  Smooth the formula onto your entire face after cleansing and before heading to bed. Repeat daily for one week, shaking the ampoule before each use, before moving onto the next ampoule, then repeat the entire process for Phases 2-4. Too easy.
The PREVAGE Progressive Renewal Treatment has an RRP of $299, which when compared to having a series of in salon peels is actually really reasonable if you have the coin to spare. It’s also a great way to ease into the idea of peels if you’re a little unsure, and has proven results.
This magic little system is available now at Elizabeth Arden counters nationwide.

Hair now to: Margot Robbie by Bryce Scarlett for Moroccanoil

It’s safe to say that at the various premieres of her latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Australian beauty Margot Robbie has slayed. She continued her global red carpet domination of late at the Los Angeles premiere of the newest Tarantino outing, referencing the early seventies again in the freshest, most modern way.
In Los Angeles, the actress called upon her seriously talented glam team to deliver a show-stopping beauty look inspired by ’70s goddess Lauren Hutton. Reportedly channelling a specific Richard Avedon portrait of Hutton shot for Vogue in 1973, Robbie arrived at the Los Angeles premiere in a beautifully draped white Chanel frock with her honey-coloured hair perfectly coiffed by stylist Bryce Scarlett Moroccanoil and a golden makeup look by her regular go-to MUA, Patti Dubroff.
“Margot’s premiere look was inspired by the silhouette of her stunning dress. We wanted to balance the volume and flow of her dress to that of her soft and voluminous waves, while keeping it light and elegant,” said Scarlett, and it looked absolutely flawless.
It’s the perfect look for a party or just general, everyday fabulousness, and Scarlett shared the process using all Moroccanoil products:
1. On damp hair, use a two-dollar coin sized amount of Moroccanoil Treatment Light to provide the perfect foundation for styling.
2. Apply a generous amount of Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse at the roots of the hair
and then apply a two-dollar coin sized of the Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Crème to the ends of the hair.
3. Next, blow the hair out smooth using a Moroccanoil Ceramic 45MM Round Brush and the Moroccanoil Professional Series Tourmaline Ceramic Hair Dryer.
4. Once the hair is fully blown out, set the hair in velcro rollers to help create bouncy, soft, voluminous waves. Then remove rollers one by one starting at the nape of the neck and tease each section at the root and spraying Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray throughout each section.
5. Pro tip* to create instantaneous volume, tease the hair with the Moroccanoil Boar Bristle Classic Brush at the crown and mid-lengths, spraying Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray into the teased sections for grit and hold.
6. Next, gather the top layer of the hair into a triangle shaped, off-centre part to create a flattering soft ‘70s inspired do, secure section with hair pins.
7. Finish the look with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium to provide a long lasting, weightless hold.

All about: Beuti Skincare’s Beauty Sleep Elixir

Anyone that checks in here regularly will know that I’m a huge fan of oils - body oils, hair oils and facials oils - and love the fact that nine times out of ten, they are brilliant multi-taskers and are great travel companions too.
Cleansing your face with one is a given with me, but for many, using oils on the face in particular may seem counterintuitive, especially those who associate it with breakouts and the like. Well it just ain’t true, and there are more and more great facial oils arriving on the market all the time that are making their way into bathroom cabinets across the globe.
The latest I’ve fallen in love with was created by UK aesthetician Leila Alaam, under the moniker of Beuti Skincare. Introduced to me by local natural solutions powerhouse the Clean Beauty Collective, it’s simply called the Beauty Sleep Elixir and really is quite the wonder (and not just for use prior to sleeping).
Before launching Beuti Skincare, Leila says she found herself constantly on the search for results driven, healthy and affordable skincare. After personally experiencing a severe allergic reaction to a luxury eye cream, she was inspired to take matters into her own hands (which seems to be the case for many creators of seriously great, clean skincare brands). She was determined to develop a luxe skincare line without the hefty price tag, that helped heal, nourish, and treat common sensitive skin issues leaving skin supple, smooth and glowing. Her first creation was the Beauty Sleep Elixir, which hit the industry in 2015 with a bang.
A delicious to use, all natural blend of 14 plant-based oils, it was formulated to reduce inflammation, prevent collagen and elastin breakdown and nourish the skin. The ingredient deck includes a Caribbean coral extract that is a powerful anti-inflammatory, as well as sandalwood nut kernel oil, which helps prevent the breakdown of skin elasticity. These ingredients are then combined with a mix of different plant oils to moisturise the skin and help it glow, including a generous amount of camellia oil, chia seed oil, pomegranate seed oil, lavender herb oil, bitter cherry seed oil, strawberry seed oil, sea buckthorn fruit berry oil, sandalwood oil, capric trglyceride from coconut and others. I absolutely love a good mix when it comes to facial oils as many great ones work even better in synergy with others, and thus far I am loving this to fight the inflammation that has hit my skin due to winter and its multitude of woes.
As per the name, it’s a great serum to apply before bed as its super boost of vitamins and minerals activate a glowing complexion while your skin is renewing itself while you sleep. It can be also worn underneath makeup to even skin tone (it makes a great primer, IMHO), be applied to bare skin to brighten your complexion on days you want to skip the foundation, and even be used as spot-treatment thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
It is apparently Meghan Markle’s go-to after it was gifted to her by her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, and if that woman’s endless glow is anything to go by, it seriously works. The prescribed nighttime application is 2-3 drops, but I’ve found I need a little more with the winter temperatures and air con drying out my skin. I do love the feeling of oil on my skin though, so it’s up to you!
Highly recommended, Beuti Skincare’s Beauty Sleep Elixir is available now from Clean Beauty Collective here.

Love it: La Prairie Crystal Micellar Water - Eyes Face

A skincare brand known for its groundbreaking products, La Prairie is often at the forefront of research into new scientific innovations for those that worship at its sleek silver altar. It also prides itself on highly active products targeting very specific concerns, and carries the mantle of “the Rolls Royce of skincare brands” very well. Its premium offering comes at an equally premium price point, but they even take the most simple of offerings and elevate it to something really rather special indeed.
This is most definitely the case when it comes to La Prairie’s Crystal Micellar Water - Eyes Face, which takes the humble favourite of models and makeup artists and creates something super luxe that goes above and beyond its peers.
Micellar waters first gained momentum in Paris, whose skin-conscious inhabitants welcomed the opportunity to swerve the bad effects that the city's famously hard water had on their skin. I have always picked a couple of bottles up when I visit family in France, and love the way they work. Designed to be swept away with a cotton pad rather than rinsed off, micellar waters use tiny micelle particles to draw make-up (including waterproof mascara), sebum and impurities from the skin. Depending upon how much make-up you wear you may prefer to remove eye make-up separately, but since micellar waters are free of soap and alcohol they are a way more gentle alternative to harsh face wipes, making them perfect for when you're in a rush or on the go. They are also ‘multi-zone’ products as they remove make-up from the face, eyes and lips and don’t require water, so great for travel and at the gym et al.
La Prairie's Crystal Micellar Water – Eyes Face is formulated as what the brand calls a “one-gesture ritual”; a combination of Liquid Crystal technology and Swiss glacier water to leave skin perfectly pristine without the elbow grease and unnecessary tugging. I love that it is super gentle on skin but literally wipes away makeup in the blink of an eye, all without drying the skin. It definitely keeps the super delicate eye area calm during makeup removal, whilst the hydrating blend including Liposomal Glacier Water helps maintain skin's moisture level.
While the demands of the day can sometimes mean less time for a full cleansing ritual, removing makeup, pollutants and other impurities remains essential for maintaining youthful-looking, healthy skin. This beauty makes that so much easier, and can be used morning and night all over the face. An ideal, light and effective morning cleanser, it works hard refreshing and moisturising the skin while eliminating any oils that have built up over night before you start you skincare ritual. To use at night, dispense the liquid onto a cotton pad and sweep over the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin until pads no longer show signs of makeup or impurities. To remove eye makeup in particular, dispense product onto a cotton pad and gently press over one eye. Wait for a few seconds to allow the formula to begin dissolving eye makeup. Gently sweep the cotton pad from the inner to outer corner. Repeat on the other eye using a fresh pad.
Suitable for all skin types and available right now, La Prairie Crystal Micellar Water - Eyes Face comes in a 150ml bottle with an RRP of $200. It’s most definitely super luxe, and comes highly recommended.

Beauty news: Glow Recipe Skincare has landed at Mecca Cosmetica

Drop the word "watermelon" into any beauty or skincare conversation and talk will immediately jump to Korean beauty and skincare brand Glow Recipe. With good reason.
Founded by two former L'Oréal execs in 2014, Glow Recipe set out to make K-beauty more accessible to consumers and in a case of right time, right place, they seriously went global. Glow Recipe's mission, Lee has said, is "to break down what K-beauty [is] all about, educate consumers on the unique trends coming out of Korea, bring them best-in-class skincare offerings, and make them accessible to consumers through repositioning and education." The fact that their products are also insanely cute and well priced helps hugely, and now, their cult-favourite Watermelon family, Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser, and the new Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask are now exclusively available at MECCA and via from this month.
Glow Recipe Skincare first released the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask and Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser in 2017, hoping to get a little traction. At launch however, the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask sold out over seven times on both and at Sephora, generating a waitlist that exceeded 8,000 people! Its success has to do with the blend of AHAs, watermelon extract, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and peony root that work to hydrate skin overnight. It can be used two to three times a week, and either rinsed off after 10 minutes or left on overnight for more intense results. It is unique in that it simultaneously exfoliates and hydrates skin, which the brand founders and CEOs say is the secret to great skin. “We are huge proponents of chemical exfoliants over physical ones to minimise any rubbing, pulling or friction on the skin,” Chang told HuffPost. “Our Watermelon Sleeping Mask was a huge success as it had an unexpected pairing — AHAs to gently exfoliate to resurface the skin, combined with watermelon extract and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and nourish skin at the same time.”
Watermelon isn’t a common ingredient in the beauty industry, but it’s become a staple for the Glow Recipe brand because of its anti-inflammatory properties and essential vitamins. In Korea, the founders say their grandmothers used to rub watermelon rind on their skins in the summer to soothe and cool heat rash and irritation, and the fact that it looks gorgeous helps too!
Today, Glow Recipe Skincare has expanded to include their Watermelon Pink Juice Moisturizer as well as the Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask and can be found online and in MECCA stores throughout New Zealand. Glow Recipe is proud to be paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, and cruelty-free, and it reportedly feels as good as it looks. Have you tried it yet? I haven’t but am keen as mustard, so maybe see you at a Mecca store soon!

All about: Dermalogica’s AGE Bright Clearing Serum and Spot Fader

Dermalogica has never been a brand to shy away from dealing with all manner of tricky skincare issues, including acne – both adult and teenage. Their latest releases target the former in particular, and come with a warning about the havoc that everyday stress can wreak upon the skin.
According to the skin health experts at Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute, stress has become a major source of imbalance in the body as the modern pace of life increases dramatically. Our body’s biochemistry has not changed much since the Stone Age, and the ‘fight or flight’ response is still most definitely in place. Your body can’t tell if you’re upset because you’re about to be eaten by a lion or just late for work, and the impact it delivers is much the same. The resulting chronic stress and hormonal imbalances, combined with environmental shifts and our busy lifestyles, are causing more breakouts and accelerated signs of skin ageing than ever before. Adult acne is particularly prevalent in women, and thus far treating it along with the inevitable signs of ageing has been seriously tough. So Dermalogica kindly created their new AGE Bright Clearing Serum and AGE Bright Spot Fader, which aim to deliver results on all fronts.
Available right now, these multitasking brightening-and-clearing marvels work on a whole new level to actively clear breakouts and restore radiance to prematurely ageing skin. Both help accelerate skin cell turnover (a process that slows with age) and keep skin clear of breakouts while promoting even skin tone – all without over-drying already-sensitive adult skin.
The Clearing Serum is a highly concentrated formula that exfoliates to help prevent breakouts and accelerates cell turnover to help reduce signs of skin ageing. Formulated with salicylic acid to reduce breakouts and clear skin, phytoactives from resurrection plant to hydrate and smooth skin and niacinamide combined with white shiitake mushroom to promote brighter and more even skin, it also works with the skin’s natural microbiome for clearer, brighter skin.
The Spot Fader is a two-in-one brightening spot treatment that helps reduce the appearance of active breakouts and post-breakout marks. Salicylic Acid, Niacinamide and Hexylresorcinol work synergistically to fade post-breakout marks, improving uneven skin tone and hopefully making a real difference in the lives of acne sufferers.
All of the Active Clearing products can be layered for maximum results, or used separately to address a specific concern. They are also vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and formulated without artificial fragrances or colours, like the rest of Dermalogica’s award winning offering.
If these sound like what you may be needing to add to your skincare arsenal, they are available now from authorised Dermalogica skin centres, department stores, Life Pharmacies and online at

Beauty destination: The NOW Massage, LA

If you read my post on the amazing Heyday a few weeks ago you’ll know that I was recently in Los Angeles, where I did a kind of Tour of Beauty so you don’t have to! Well you’ll probably want to given the amazing places I checked out, one of which was the massage and good vibes-giving marvel known as The NOW Massage.
In LA, your spiritual and emotional maintenance is as crucial as blowouts and facials, and thanks to the drop-in massage studio The NOW, the holistic benefits of massage—better sleep, lower anxiety and more—have become as accessible (and affordable) as having a professional help give you great hair on a Friday night.
Since they opened their first studio in 2015, The NOW  studios have become an Angeleno go-to for high-quality massages in a calm and chic space that won't break the bank. Co-founder and Creative Director Gara Post was responsible for helping create the look and feel of each relaxation destination, and you feel the bliss wash over you from the moment you walk through the doors. I visited the West Hollywood location and began snapping for Instagram the minute that I crossed over the threshold, envisaging creating a similar vibe at home as soon as a landed back in New Zealand. Post’s vision was always to embrace a 'minimalist, soothing aesthetic' to whisk away the stressors of daily city life, creating an oasis in the city and an escape from the fast-paced, digital overload we experience on a daily basis. The idea was to bring nature indoors, and incorporate raw elements and natural materials that conjure smells and scenes from exotic destinations, and it most definitely works. All wood surfaces, whitewashed walls and kilim pillows, the spaces ever have hand-made crystal grid installations to give positive energy to each boutique.
Like Drybar and Heyday, The NOW has taken an indulgence and made it more accessible every day, with a price within reach for many looking to incorporate regular massage into their lives. We booked in advance but they also welcome drop ins, with several beds on the go at once in their blissful locales.
For a place offering such affordable services, The NOW’s menu is impressively broad. I went for the signature massage known just as “The NOW”—a blend of Swedish and Thai techniques – with a CBD balm and gua sha add-on. I felt like I was walking on air when I left, and took home my own rose quartz gua sha and pot of balm that I have used more than a few times since returning home. They also offer their own body oil to buy, and a range of beautifully curated body and wellness-focused products that are well worth a browse through.
With four locations now open in LA, The NOW is most definitely a place to book into the minute you hit the city. Beat the jet lag and ease yourself into the Californian way of life, one smooth stroke at a time.

Love it: Kérastase's new 8H Magic Night Serum

Continuing on their quest to create high performance haircare with the kind of careful approach more akin to next level, luxury skincare, the amazing team at Kérastase has unveiled what is quite possibly the missing step in your bedtime routine.
You wouldn’t dream of hitting the sheets without completing your night time beauty routine, but what about your hair? Is it just a matter of pulling it all back in a ballerina bun and be done with it? Known for serving up the most luxe of haircare products, Kérastase's new 8H Magic Night Serum has arrived to enable you to seamlessly bring haircare into your nightly routine and redefine the term ‘beauty sleep’ when it comes to your locks.
An overnight leave-in serum that is in salon now, 8H Magic Night Serum gives a nourishing boost to all dry hair types – be they wavy, straight or curly.  Super lightweight to use and quickly absorbed, it tackles the likes of dryness, dullness, damage and breakage with aplomb, going to work and delivering real results while you sleep.
Key ingredients in the formula include Iris Root Extract – which continually nurtures and coats hair fibres over eight hours, while reversing loss of nutrients – and a Five Vitamin Blend that seals nutrients and anchors roots to leave the hair with a truly satin finish. And not only does the product replenish the nutrients and moisture lost from factors such as hot-tool styling and environmental elements during the day, but it also takes into consideration the challenges hair meets when you're sleeping. How so? I use a silk satin pillowcase, but other types can lead to hair cuticle damage. 8H Magic Night Serum works to protect your strands from pillow friction and provides hydration to combat the drying effects brought on by any heat or AC in your bedroom.
The easy-to-use serum's process is made up of two simple steps, so although it is an extra step in your routine, it’s not an arduous one. First, spread the product in your hands, and then disperse it evenly throughout your hair lengths and ends. The milky-gel like cream literally melts into the hair and is quickly absorbed, leaving behind a soothing lavender essence to help with deep sleep.
The next morning there is no need to get up early to rinse, just roll out of bed with lightweight, shiny strands.
Kérastase 8H Magic Night Serum has an RRP of $70 - which isn’t cheap, but think about how much you spent on your last moisturiser! And you wouldn’t dream of hitting the sheets without completing your night time beauty routine, would you?

Love it: the Living Proof Colour Care Collection

I have been obsessed by the cult US haircare brand Living Proof since it first launched, buying up bits and pieces from the collection whenever I passed through the States. I have their travel minis on hand for whenever I’m lucky enough to be boarding a plane (their dry shampoo just may be the Holy Grail of its ilk), and have used their shampoos and conditioners over the years whenever I have enough space in my luggage to stock up.
So, when the brand landed locally at Mecca Cosmetica I was over the moon, and basically said goodbye to ever having spare cash again… ha ha! The latest specialist release from Living Proof is one I am lucky enough to have been gifted, and have been putting to the test since it arrived on my doorstep. Called the Colour Care collection, each product features a silicone-free system that effectively helps stop colour fading and improves the health of hair over time, without any trade-offs. When you consider how often you need to tone and or refresh your colour to keep it looking flawless this is a huge bonus in terms of hair health (as well as your wallet’s), and I could not have been happier to give it a whirl.
The breakthrough Colour Care system in the line that makes hair colour last an amazing two times longer is powered by the newest patented technology, the Locking Molecule (CPULA), which helps lock in colour - even after your hair has been rinsed. There is even a UV filter in Colour Care Shampoo that is positively charged so it’s substantive to hair and actually limits wash-off. Amazing.
The collection features a Shampoo, Conditioner and two shades of Whipped Glazes, all of which are formulated without the silicones typically used in colour care ranges. Additionally, it is sulphate-free and includes other ingredients that provide benefits for colour-treated hair, and I’m totally in love. The Colour Care Shampoo protects against hard water as well as UV, whilst the Colour Care Conditioner forms a protective layer to help lock in colour and helps replenish the outer layer often damaged during the colouring process. The latter has been an absolute godsend for my damaged ends, eliminating frizz and keeping my tone super fresh. The Colour Care Whipped Glaze comes in Light and Dark, and essentially deposits temporary colour to instantly boost vibrancy, counteract fading and rebalance tone and/or brassiness. You apply them to clean, detangled towel-dried hair by applying a small amount through sections, from roots to ends. Comb through to evenly distribute - applying more as needed – then drying and styling as usual. Too easy. You can reapply your glaze as needed to maintain your desired colour, and it’s recommended that you begin using your glaze when you first start to see a shift in your tone.
The Living Proof Colour Care collection is available right now in New Zealand exclusively at Mecca Cosmetica, Mecca Maxima and online at
