All about: The Ordinary’s all new Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner

When it comes to skincare, toner is back in a starring role thanks to its evolution from an alcohol-based solution to one that has skin-loving ingredients to target different skin types and concerns.
Gone are the harsh formulas of days past that left your skin dry and irritated. This new class of toners is water-based, soothing and, in some cases, can brighten and help address premature ageing, leaving your skin feeling clean and hydrated. Essentially: they prep your skin for additional cosmetics and products that come afterwards, rather than just stripping away oil and grime.
And don’t mistake a toner for an astringent. Astringents are usually alcohol-based and used to control oil — but they can be harsh and dry out your skin. A toner gently refreshes your skin without stripping it of moisture.

All of which brings me to the product immediately at hand: The Ordinary’s all new Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner. Yep the moniker is a bit of a mouthful, but when it comes to The Ordinary, I’d expect nothing less!
The beautiful newbie is a gentle and hydrating exfoliating toner made with yeast ferment technology which uses 30% Saccharomyces Ferment, containing 3% Fermented N-Acetyl Glucosamine (or NAG). The new formulation gently exfoliates for smoother, more hydrated and radiant skin, delivering all-day lasting hydration and a blissfully more even tone, whilst being suitable for all skin types - even sensitive souls - thanks to the immediate boost in hydration.
Bypassing skin acids as its hero ingredient and instead using the power of N-Acetyl Glucosamine (NAG) to promote surface exfoliation, the gentle but effective formula sees the always-innovating brand make a foray into fermentation. Fermentation changes the chemical makeup of what is fermented and can help break down molecules or even create new ones, leading to new and effective skincare ingredients.
A fermentation derived technology, NAG is the lead ingredient in Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner, encouraging surface exfoliation to help smooth uneven skin texture and promote a more radiant appearance. It comes combined with Squalane to help provide the short and long-term hydrating qualities of the formulation, another of the brand’s most-celebrated ingredients (their Squalane Cleanser is forever in my bathroom cabinet).
To achieve the milky, hydrating texture that I have fallen hard for, The Ordinary chemists opted for a microfluidizer technology which mixes the ingredients like fermented NAG and oil-soluble squalane at incredibly high speeds, breaking them down into microscopically small droplets. This creates a stable, lightweight formula that does not separate, and provides a beautifully silky, water-like lightweight milky texture that applies to the skin like a dream. Yes, I love it.
The dream exfoliating alternative for those like me looking for a different, gentle approach to exfoliation, without compromising on efficacy, Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner should be applied in the Prep stage of your regimen after cleansing and before the Treat step, where serums would be applied. And it can also be used twice daily, and does not need to be rinsed off.

This wonder is on counter now and comes highly recommended!
