Afterpay Australian Fashion Week makeup how-to: MECCA for Oroton Resort 23

Iconic Australian brand Oroton returned to the AAFW runway for a second year in a row yesterday, after making their debut during last year's trade event. The sun-seeking presentation featured a runway lined with tree trunks painted in gold and white, and the collection was filled with fabulously chic maxi dresses and crisp shirts that were instantly added to my wish list.

For the collection, Oroton took inspiration from nostalgia, whether it be staying close to the comforts of home and going back to the garden, or dreaming of a vintage-inspired trip abroad. Expanding on the house’s legacy, the Resort 23 collection combined time-honoured detailing such as embroidery, hand stitching and charming motifs, with bold architectural silhouettes and structured accessories.

To compliment the collection MECCA’s Lead Artist for Oroton, Janelle Jerusalem, created a series of looks that revolved around a youthful, dewy and healthy complexion with a touch of peachiness for a sun-kissed, faux-flush.
She star MUA described her beauty direction as being “inspired by the feeling of escapism. There is an ode to the timeless, elegant and fresh-faced youthfulness of the skin—the way the cheeks naturally flush and the dewy warmth it evokes after some time in the sun”.

Using Mecca Cosmetica as their beauty staples, the MECCA artistry team used the following products – including my ALL TIME favourite undereye concealer - to create the looks:
Mecca Cosmetica Weekend Skin Glow Serum (massaged into the skin to create a glowy base)
Mecca Cosmetica Tinted Lip De-Luscious in Shell (dabbed off so there is no sheen on the lips, just a flush of peach)
Mecca Cosmetica Brush Collection, including Wonder Complexion Brush (used to apply the Mecca Cosmetica Weekend Glow Serum on the body and décolletage to create that glistening healthy glow) and the Mini Buffing Brush (to apply the cream colour)
Mecca Max Off Duty Blush Stick (in the shade Juicy or Sorbet depending on the model’s skin tone)
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (applied with fingers on centre plains or where the skin needs slight coverage to even out complexion, for a natural finish)
Kosas Revealer Concealer (applied under the eyes to brighten)
ILIA Balmy Tint Hydrating Lip Balm (pat the shade Hold Me gently on the lips, dab off shine for a soft and pouty effect)
Smashbox Always On Cream Eye Shadow (warm cream eyeshadow, in the shade Sepia, on to the socket of the lid to enhance the eye’s natural depth)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze (to brush brows up naturally)
Mecca Max Off Duty Glass Stick (pat on high points of the face - temples, upper cheek bones, a touch on the bridge of the nose - for an enhanced, dewy, sun-kissed healthy glow)

When asked what beauty trends Janelle saw coming out of AAFW into ’22, she said; “there will be a continuation of celebrating the skin’s natural luminosity through products that double as a hybrid skincare-meets-makeup duo (like skin tints)”. She added that beauty looks “will remain fresh, glowy and almost undone, but with a surprising element of colour – whether it be on the cheeks like a peach-toned warm flush, or a just-kissed, bitten hint of a soft rosy plum on the lips.”
