Beauty news: The Ordinary launches a haircare collection

There is so much to say about The Ordinary, which has to be one of the most consistently rule-breaking and insanely affordable, high performance beauty brands to have ever hit the marketplace. Their formulations – and price points – have been game changers from the get-go, with every new release a major deal that comes part and parcel with waitlists and rave reviews.
Since its launch in 2016, the brand has become a staple in many skincare regimes – beauty fanatics, editors and newbies alike. So I sat up and took notice when I heard that the brand was expanding proper (more on that later) into the haircare scene. The new and long-awaited range, which thus far consists of a shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment serum, will be available to shop from tomorrow.
The Ordinary has always been one to watch. Since its breakout into the beauty world, the brand’s core mission has been to democratise skincare by creating super affordable products that actually work. The brand quickly became known for its science-based formulas and its no-frills approach to skincare, from their blemish-obliterating Salicylic Acid 2% Solution to the ultimate hydrator Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, The Ordinary is pretty-much unrivalled when it comes to affordable yet targeted skincare. And as your scalp deserves just as much love as your face does, this new haircare line takes the same approach.

Fans of The Ordinary will know that this is not the brand’s first foray into haircare. Back in 2018 the brand first launched its Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density which had a revival just last year, reaching viral fame and cult status on Tik Tok. Yet this is the brand’s very first shampoo, conditioner and scalp serum, a powerful trio for all hair types.
Prudvi Kaka, Chief Science Officer at The Ordinary's parent brand, explains that nailing ideal, maximally healthy hair boils down to a scalp issue. "Maintaining optimal scalp health by protecting the skin's barrier, alongside effective cleansing and moisturising, is very important," says Kaka. "We are providing solutions that can be combined to offer cleansing, conditioning and hydration, but can also be used as stand-alone products."

Step one in the new lineup is to cleanse with The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair. It is a gentle but effective cleanser formulated to remove dirt, grease and product residue from your scalp and hair that contains Sodium Laureth Sulphate-2, which is a biodegradable surfactant. Gentle enough to be kind to the scalp, it can also be used on your hair and body with minimal chance of irritation.
Next, condition with The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner, which has been formulated to leave your hair feeling light and soft thanks to the behentrimonium chloride in the title. Behentrimonium chloride sounds complex, but it's actually just a well-calibrated seed oil derivative put to excellent effect. The formula’s streamlined ingredient list is all killer, no filler—as in, there are no unnecessarily heavy ingredients posing as especially hydrating only to leave hair weighed-down and lifeless.
Essential to the regime is scalp treatment with The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA, a revolutionary product designed to improve scalp hydration without sticking to the hair and weighing down the roots. It helps protect and hydrate the outer layer of the scalp, and takes its cue from The Ordinary's skincare moisturiser, Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. The product is designed to mimic hair's own natural moisturising effects to hydrate the scalp, supported by hyaluronic acid and squalane.
So well-priced it would be a crime not to give them a whirl, you'll find this impressive trio available online from tomorrow.
