Beauty news: M·A·C Cosmetics launches limited-edition Disney Cruella Collection

A notoriously bold anti-hero who dishes out villainous levels of attitude and outlandish style in equal measure, it’s safe to say that Cruella de Vi is most definitely fiendishly fashionable. The infamous main character portrayed by Academy Award®-winner Emma Stone in Disney’s all-new live action movie, Cruella, which releases May 28, 2021, she’s also the inspiration for M·A·C’s coolest new collection.
Called The Disney Cruella Collection by M·A·C, it’s a collection that revisits the iconic makeup brand’s subcultural heritage by taking inspiration from the fashion icon who so perfectly embodies the Punk and New Wave era of the late 70s and early 80s, with her vivid slash of crimson lips and hardcore black-and-white shadows. “With there being such a huge trend for recycling the more niche counterculture moments of previous decades, this collection feels like M·A·C returning to a celebration of the kind of DIY styling and brave transformation that originally made it such a maverick brand,” explains M·A·C Director of Makeup Artistry, Terry Barber.
The collection is a range of punk-rock reds and haute metallic hues, and Barber describes it as “high glam with plenty of attitude, brought to a new generation”. Cruella stands for the rebels, outcasts, misfits and original rule- breakers who have always been – and continue to be – the real tastemakers, and it’s safe to say that I love every piece.

Taking its cue from the shades and artistry used to create Stone-as-Cruella’s on-screen looks, key to the look is a dark pencil, a dark pewter eyeshadow and white eyeshadow. For eyes, the eight-pan eye shadow palette Cruella To Be Kind (a very well-priced $88, see above) features mostly cool-toned hues of silver, blue, and black in a trio of finishes: matte, satin, and shimmer. The pigments are perfect for a smoked-out look like the one Stone wears in the trailer, and the kit even disconnects into four sections, each with two shades, for portability. Love that!

The brand has also included a special-edition Dual-Ended Pro Longwear Eye Liner (above): on one end lies a pitch-black hue adorably dubbed De-Vinyl, while the stark-white pigment, Tightly Laced, is on the other. Use the bright white liner on the lower lash line to brighten the eyes, or just in the inner corner for a bold-yet-minimalist look.
Lastly, lips make up the collection's biggest category. M·A·C is adding six new shades of its beloved creamy bullet Matte Lipsticks and Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours to its regular line up, with odes to the Disney villain's favourite shade – killer red. Shades like De Vil in the Details bright red and liquid lipcolour in Glamarchy blood red most definitely fit the brief, for your most dastardly look yet.
The Disney Cruella Collection by M·A·C Cosmetics is available at all M·A·C locations and online at maccosmetics.com.
