Beauty review: the Kérastase Genesis collection for hair fall

A haircare brand that has long treated hair with the same reverence as the skin, it comes as no surprise that Kérastase Paris have developed many a product akin to an anti-ageing or correcting serum for the face and neck, and even whole ranges dedicated to correcting some of our greatest hair concerns. The latest is Genesis – which places an often ignored issue front and centre.
That issue is hair fall, as well as the breakage that many experience while brushing and just chalk up to bad luck. Kérastase is here to save the day, with Genesis the first ever range to treat both kinds of hair fall – at the root and from fibre breakage.

Hair fall can happen for many reasons as part of the natural life cycle of your hair, and it can drop from the root, or partway down the hair shaft from breakage due to stressors like too much brushing, tight hair ties, too much hot styling or excess of UV. Diet, hormones and life stress can also contribute to the health of your skin – including your scalp – and hair, with many pregnant women experiencing serious hair fall after the birth of their bubs.
Kérastase set out to create not just one product but a whole line to address the issue, with the Genesis collection consisting of shampoos, conditioners and treatments supercharged with potent ingredients to answer hair-fall needs. These high performance ingredients that go into the high performance formulas include antioxidant-rich Edelweiss Native Cells and ginger root, which protects against external aggressors.
I love that the collection offers not just one but two shampoos, as not all hair experiencing fall is the same. You can begin with Kérastase Genesis Bain Nutri-Fortifiant Shampoo or, for fine hair, use Kérastase Genesis Bain Hydra-Fortifiant Shampoo. The gentle cleansing action soothes and hydrates hair from root to tip, as well as reinforcing individual fibres to reduce the risk of hair-fall due to breakage. I’ve been using the Genesis Bain Hydra-Fortifiant Shampoo due to my fine (but lots of) hair and oilier roots, and have to say it feels incredibly luxe as well as being kind to colour.
Next, condition with Kérastase Genesis Fondant Renforcateur, which has a deliciously creamy formula and offers anti-breakage action with the most lightweight finish. It helps restore hair fibres and reinforces natural resistance, and for extra fortifying care swap it out for the Genesis Masque once a week.
Also like premium skincare, Genesis offers some extras for those truly in need in the form of  the Genesis Serum and the Genesis Ampoules Cure Anti-Chute Fortifiantes. With a unique precision blend of ingredients, the ampoules act to intensely reduce hair-fall and re-anchor the hair follicle into the scalp, while also providing an optimal environment for future growth. They even soothe and decrease itchiness by reinforcing the natural protective barrier of the scalp, so your scalp biome stays happily intact.
The Kérastase Genesis collection is available in salon right now, and comes highly recommended.
