Why the Dyson Airwrap2x™ became by travel beauty MVP
Travelling to Europe for a month towards the end of last year, packing was always going to be a drama. Cooler temps meant heavier woollens and jackets were a must, which was very much the opposite of my usual warm weather packing list of two bikinis, a few light sundresses and some #EuroSummer-ready killer heels. It also meant that my beauty product space was at a premium, so when I decided I couldn’t live without my Dyson Airwrap2x™ my makeup options were reduced to a kit just slightly bigger than my palm. Was it worth it? Most definitely, for the health of my hair and my wallet!
About the Dyson Airwrap2x™
Launched in New Zealand six years ago, when the Dyson Airwrap styler landed many of us wondered how we ever lived without it. A tool engineered to create voluminous curls, natural waves and smooth blow dries without extreme heat, it delivers near-salon worthy blow waves without needing to leave the comfort of your own bathroom. Instantly obsessed? You bet, and I still have my original Airwrap to show for it.
Fast forward to 2022 and the world’s most awarded styling tool was radically redesigned, bringing new and reengineered attachments powered by enhanced Coanda airflow. Describing themselves as “relentlessly dissatisfied”, the team of Dyson engineers challenged their own design to miniaturise and multiply the Coanda effect, pioneering a personalisable styling tool to deliver a range of styles for different hair types, without extreme heat.
Never ones to rest on their laurels, last year the team unveiled the Airwrap 3.0 in the form of the new Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x multi-styler and dryer, powered by Dyson’s fastest and most powerful hair care motor, the Hyperdymium. The supercharged motor delivers twice the air pressure to wrap hair more easily, dries as fast as a full performance hair dryer, and creates sleek, straight looks, and the new tool offers 6-in-1 versatility to reveal a world of styling possibilities: dry, curl, wave, straighten, smooth and volumise, with no heat damage.
Lighter, and better
Fuelled by relentless iteration, Dyson also made the Airwrap2x™ smaller and lighter in hand for improved manoeuvrability and control, which is a huge deal for those like me with pain issues and physical limitations. The wire powering the Hyperdymium™2 motor is as thin as a strand of the human hair it’s designed to care for — measuring just 90 microns, it's an example of precision engineering and allows the team to miniaturise this powerful technology to the extent that it now comfortably sits in the palm of your hand. This also made adding it to my suitcase that much more justifiable, especially as I chose to only pack the hairdryer and round volumising brush, both of which proved to be invaluable and definitely the ones I use most often at home as well.
The takeaway
Thanks to my Dyson Airwrap2x™ being on board, I literally saved hundreds of Euros in professional blow dries, which I often opt for when I travel as hotel and apartment hairdryers are nine times out of ten, decidedly subpar. At a time when our New Zealand dollar was at the lowest it has been in years, this was a godsend for my overall travel budget. Packing this beauty also proved hugely beneficial for the overall health of my hair, which stayed looking and feeling its best despite the fact that I only packed a single styling product – a multitasking one, but a single one nonetheless.
I cannot rave about packing this styling tool enough, and from here on in it will be most definitely be my ultimate travel companion x
