Beauty review: ALEPH BEAUTY’S NEW MULTI-USE LINER PENCILS
Back in 2018, I was introduced to then-brand new makeup brand, Aleph Beauty by its creator, the truly passionate and inspiring Emma Peters. Precisely created from powerful active, natural ingredients, from day one Aleph products were formulated work in harmony with skin at the cellular level - and they look and feel amazing, which is often a rarity in the all-natural colour category.
Founded by professional MUA and passionate sustainability warrior Emma, Aleph Beauty is a what she likes to call a ‘conscious’ cosmetics brand – aware and considerate of its impact on people, the planet and animals. Add to that Emma’s many years in the film, television and fashion industries and formulas that seriously deliver, and you have a brand that will inevitably go global in time – and is already well on the way.
With shades that are customisable to all skin types, tones and shades and incredible coverage and staying power, Aleph is one of the fastest growing cosmetic brands in New Zealand’s market with good reason. Less than a year after debuting their natural cosmetics collection, the brand was nominated for Best Natural Makeup at 2019’s Best in Beauty Awards, and if you haven’t tried their beautiful concealer/foundation then you are definitely missing out.
But enough raving, and onto some great news for Aleph Beauty fans like me. The conscious beauty brand has released a selection of Eye/Lip Multi-Liner Pencils in five very wearable shades, and they are super impressive. Emma first showed me these at the Aleph Beauty Ponsonby pop up in Auckland last year, and they were also put to the test at Kahuria New Zealand Fashion Week – backstage and on the runway. Designed to define, shape, and shade both eyes and lips, the multitasking pencils blend effortless performance with skin-nurturing care, a bonus especially for sensitive and mature skin types like me.
The details
The impressive, super smooth liner formula glides with richly pigmented colour that transitions from sharp definition to softly diffused shading. Its versatile formula and soft matte finish allow for pro-level artistry and everyday wear, and true to Aleph’s Clean Promise, the pencil is crafted from natural, organic, and vegan ingredients, free from microplastics, silicones and synthetic fragrances.
Key ingredients include Organic Jojoba Seed Oil for hydration, Oryzanol from rice bran oil for antioxidant protection, Organic Carnauba Wax for smooth glide, and plant-based alternatives to silicone for wear and breathability. Silica softens texture, while other botanicals condition and maintain moisture balance. The formula is also dermatologist-tested, balancing care with enduring performance.
Lastly, encased in a wooden barrel with a recyclable aluminium cap, the pencil is 100 percent plastic-free and part of Aleph’s recycling program, supporting responsible beauty waste practices across NZ, AU, US, and Canada.
The shades
The Multi-Use Liner Pencil comes in a versatile palette of shades, Noir, Umber, Fig, Blush, and Nude, designed to define lash lines, create softly smoked eyes, or line and fill lips for a plush matte finish. You can also layer them with Aleph Cheek/Lip Tint or Hybrid Eye Pigment to build bespoke tones and depth, and as someone that loves to cocktail their beauty products in all manner of unexpected ways, I love the invitation to personalise and get as creative as you like with just a few select formulas.
Noir is a quintessential deep black, delivering bold, deep definition for the eyes, and doubles beautifully as a smudgy base for smoky looks. I used it in combination with neutral brown Umber in the main image above to create a soft, smudged smoky eye in literally minutes.
Fig is a rich plum that brings soft definition and depth, subtly mimicking the natural undertone of the delicate vein line around the eyes, making it especially flattering for all eye colours, particularly green, hazel and blue, while Blush is the warm dusty rose I used all over my lips in the photo above with a simple balm added over the top for extra hydration. Blush creates that your-lips-but-better effect, with just enough colour to lift and enhance, while
Nude is a soft peach-beige neutral that brings quiet structure to the lips. Nude is perfect for contouring or subtly refining the lip line, eye line or cheek, and has become a firm favourite for day-to-day over the summer months.
The Aleph Multi-Use Liner Pencil is available now at alephbeauty.com and from selected stockists, RRP NZD $42.
