All about: DERMALOGICA’S NEW POWERBRIGHT DARK SPOT PEEL

If I had a dollar for every person that has asked me for advice over the years when it comes to how to fade dark spots and pigmentation… well, let’s just say I’d be a very wealthy woman. Such an issue for almost every skin type and skin tone, they are also incredibly complex to treat – and often with years of commitment to see any real results. Anyone who’s tried to fade dark spots knows it’s typically a lengthy process, as well as being fraught with misinformation and fear as well as some rather dangerous sounding solutions.
The latter is a fear that is incredibly well-founded, with some of the most aggressive of treatments for spots and pigmentation resulting in an even trickier situation than the one being addressed in the first place. Improper or over-exfoliation can cause more hyperpigmentation, especially in skin with melanin hyperactivity – which can be linked to both skin tone and other genetic factors. However the newest formula from Dermalogica to address the issue is quite the wonder – and clinically proven on a wide range of skin tones and types, including hyperpigmentation-prone and melanin-rich skin.
Called PowerBright Dark Spot Peel, it has been created to take the uncertainty out of treating hyperpigmentation, which is especially prevalent right now when many of us are dealing with an increase in unwanted dark spots post-summer. Inspired by professional peels, it utilises a targeted combination of acids along with a very clever restorative algae extract for optimal exfoliation. The peel quickly fades surface dark spots while controlling the inflammatory triggers that can lead to further dark spots or other side effects (like sensitivity or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), for better and brighter skin revealing itself over time.

Key to the game changing formula is a fast-acting 12% AHA + PHA blend made up of Mandelic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Phytic Acid, and Gluconolactone (PHA), couple with barrier-restoring Pro-Restore technology. An omega-3 blend soothes and helps reduce triggers that lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (and provides the peel’s subtle green colour), while Niacinamide and Tranexamic Acid are included for their help with brightening and evening skin tone. Last up, a nourishing, antioxidant-rich Turmeric butter blend leaves skin feeling smoother and softer.
To supercharge results, the brand recommends that you pair the PowerBright Dark Spot Peel with their best-selling PowerBright Dark Spot Serum. The perfect two-step system to fade and lift pigmentation, Dermalogica have kindly also released a kit which includes the two PowerBright products for RRP $288 (value $363).

Caroline Parker, Head of Education for Dermalogica New Zealand says: “This duo will be unmatched for helping to lift away the appearance of dark spots and keeping hyperpigmentation at bay. “The PowerBright Dark Spot Serum helps to fade the appearance of pigmentation over time while the new PowerBright Dark Spot Peel will help to visibly lift surface hyperpigmentation for a wide range of skin tones and types, including melanin-rich + hyperpigmentation-prone skin.”
I’m saving my sample of the PowerBright Dark Spot Peel for when I arrive back from Fiji, when I’m going to attempt to tackle some stubborn pigmentation on my neck that has lingered all too long. Will report back on the results!

PowerBright Dark Spot Peel and the new two-step kit are available now.
