Grammy Awards 2026 hair how-to: Tate McRae by Dimitris Giannetos
Dubbing the hair look he created for multi-hyphenate Tate McRae at yesterday’s 68th Annual Grammy Awards “Tate Moss hair”, super stylist Dimitris Giannetos took inspiration from the iconic supermodel’s signature tousled texture and elevated it for the red carpet in a way that only he can. And did I love it? You bet, adding pics straight to my mood board for event hair as the year rolls on.
Writing on Instagram “it’s hot, it’s effortless, it’s layered, it’s bouncy and it’s edgy!”, Giannetos most definitely crafted a style that felt sexily undone yet undeniably chic, and it proved to be the perfect match for McRae’s custom Balenciaga gown. “Tate wore a stunning custom Balenciaga look, so I wanted the hair to feel very editorial with a cool, modern and effortless vibe. The inspiration was an ethereal and edgy Kate Moss-inspired texture,” Giannetos shared with New Beauty. “It feels a little undone and effortlessly chic.”
Fashion-forward and gloriously unfettered, I couldn’t get enough of the bouncy, sleek blowout, which the artist created using tools from Dyson and a super affordable L’Oréal Paris product lineup.
Now, to get the look at home:
1. Giannetos began by washing the singer-songwriter’s hair with L’Oréal Paris EverPure Iron Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner, creating a sleek foundation.
2. On towel-dried hair, he then applied L’Oréal Paris EverPure Iron Sleek Coat to help protect against frizz—an essential step especially in humid environments
3. Next, fast blow-dry freshly washed hair with Dyson Supersonic r on high heat and airflow settings, which protects hair from excessive heat.
4. Once dry, McRae’s hair was pinned up in sections and set in thick curls to build body and movement, before being left to cool and set.
5. To enhance length and fullness, Great Lengths Tape-In Extensions were added to the roots that had been custom-matched to McRae’s shade. Giannetos then carefully razored the extensions to perfectly align with her length and shape, for a seamless blend and the most lush of locks.
Tip: Take your time with prep to keep things smooth, with strategic volume placed exactly where it’s needed.
