Christmas countdown: Oribe, for the luxe haircare lover

Originally created by the legendary Oribe Canales, hair stylist to the stars, Oribe has been one of my favourite haircare brands from the moment it landed in New Zealand just over five years ago.The eponymous product line from one of the most influential hairdressers of all time, it really does define luxury in hair care. The late Canales was one of the most sought after hairstylists for fashion, editorial and advertising work for over 30 years and his product range reflects just how in love with the craft of beautiful hair he really was. His collaborators include countless photographers, like Bill King, who introduced him to the fashion editor Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, a co-conspirator during his Steven Meisel years. Then there was the meticulous Irving Penn, who Oribe referred to as Mr. Penn; and Helmut Newton, who shot Cindy Crawford for American Vogue with hair that Oribe teased to infinity; and others like Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, Francesco Scavullo and Horst. He was a man that loves making women look gorgeous, and his signature style was always super luxurious locks.Defining luxury in hair care, the brand that carries his name doesn’t compromise on any detail, and its creators continue to leverage skincare technology and natural actives to deliver high-performance, treatment-based products that deliver major results. Its award-winning packaging was designed to make the experience of using the products as beautiful as the formulas themselves, and each year their holiday gifting sets are amongst the most carefully considered and gorgeous available.

This year’s offering is a collaboration with Native American artist Rowan Harrison of Two Tribes Pottery. Harrison’s original designs utilise traditional Southwestern indigenous decorative motifs that draw upon the ancient beauty of the natural world, and the kits contain all you need for beautiful hair.
