Daily delight: Natascha McElhone for YOU Magazine

Californication star Natash McElhone was recently shot by Elisabeth Hoff for YOU Magazine flaunting some seriously to-kill-for hair. The man on the job was UK-based make up artist and hair stylist Michael Ashton, who gives us a quick run down on how to – hopefully – achieve the same…

1. Start by thoroughly prepping the hair. Towel dry from wet, removing excess moisture before working through Bumble & Bumble Prep on mid-lengths and ends. Next, apply Paul Labrecque Root Lifting Spray to the root area.

2. Flip the hair over with your head between your knees, blasting hot air down the hair shaft whilst finger drying - creating instant lift at your roots and thickness through the rest of your hair.

3. Once the hair is almost 80 per cent dry, flip your hair back over and take large sections, smoothing them with a medium sized round brush. Pay particular attention to the ends to ensure they are bouncy and luscious.

4. Next, section the hair into quarters - from ear to ear and then front to back – and using a medium-large sized hot tong take each section and work it onto the barrel until the section is heated through. This will give hair a loose bend and in turn, a contemporary and dishevelled yet feminine texture.

5. Continue for the remaining three sections, ensuring that as you have finished curling each section you pin it in a barrel curl using a sectioning clip while it cools and sets.

6. As the tonged sections are cooling take some time to indulge, spraying your favorite scent/body lotion or slip into your outfit and pop on the bling - feeling fabulous is not only about your hair, but indulging in a complete experience that makes you feel sensuous too.

7. After 5-10 minutes, remove the sectioning clips, gentle tousle the hair and brush into place before massaging a little M.O.P Glisten Drops and Kevin Murphy hair balm in to create an expensive boho glam look ..... wonderful waves that could transport you from the office to the set of any David Lynch noir classic in the flirty flutter of a lash!
