Beauty review: Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base+

Post Vitamin Enriched Face Base+ application, wearing Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin Foundation and Luxe Cashmere Matte Lipstick in Neutral Rose

I’ve always thought of Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base as a product that effortlessly straddles skincare and makeup, an early hybrid before that became a thing and a staple in every MUA’s kit.
It’s technically a moisturiser and primer, and I always reach for it when I need extra smoothing and added hydration before makeup application, especially now my skin is significantly more dry than it was when I first became a fan. So, when the brand introduced Vitamin Enriched Face Base+ a couple of months ago, a reformulation and replacement of the OG product, I was keen to see what had changed.

The brand’s key philosophy: The Art of Protecting an Icon
The powers that be at Bobbi Brown say of the new formulation: “when a product is a global icon, loved by generations, the commitment to its future is our greatest priority”. The reformulation offered a rare opportunity - a chance to not only preserve the formula their community loves but also harness new innovations to make it even better.
"This wasn't about changing the formula; it was about making it work even harder for your skin," says Teresa Kitfield, Vice President of Global Product Development for Bobbi Brown. "We asked ourselves, 'How can we make the best even better?' The answer was a new Super Vitamin Blend, purposefully chosen to deliver tangible results.”

The new ingredient deck
Face Base already did exactly what I wanted it to, when I wanted it to, so I wasn’t automatically sold on the promise of more skincare benefits. Still, the additions make sense for the way people use primer now, and after trying the new formula for over a month now, I’m obsessed.
New additions to the ingredient deck include Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and more Panthenol (Vitamin B5) to strengthen the skin's barrier, and Vitamin C to visibly brighten over time.
The most interesting part of this update to me is what they took away: the original Face Base contained two silicones (cyclopentasiloxane, and dimethicone crosspolymer) which gave it its pleasantly silky glide. These ingredients have been removed from Face Base+, with the former also set to be restricted in leave-on cosmetics in the European Union beginning in June 2027 because of environmental concerns.

My verdict
A longer ingredient list means very little to me if the product stops doing the thing I fell originally for: making my makeup look better. But this does, and beautifully.
Has the removal of the two silicones compromised that satisfyingly silky feel? Nope, as the brand has recreated that buttery, cushion-soft feel with a mix of lightweight emollients and texture enhancers. Together, they help the cream spread easily, soften the look of texture, and give your foundation a smoother base to sit on.
It also still has the uplifting scent of grapefruit and geranium it’s so well known for, which makes me feel oddly nostalgic with every application. I love it.

Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base+ is available now, RRP $49 for 15ml and $130 for 100ml, at Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Counters nationwide.
