Met Gala hair how-to: Margot Robbie by Bryce Scarlett

It’s safe to say that Margot Robbie slayed at the 2023 Met Gala, sporting a 1993 Chanel archive gown and a killer '90s supermodel blowout to match.
Super stylist Bryce Scarlett was the talent responsible for the latter, a man who also works with some of Hollywood’s biggest names like Natalie Portman, Lily Aldridge, Hailey Beiber and Brie Larson. Scarlett has collaborated with brands such as Christian Dior, Audemars Piguet and Chanel and his work can be seen across the pages of Vogue, Vanity Fair, W and V Magazines.
“We took inspiration for the hair from her stunning 90’s Chanel archival dress that was originally worn by Cindy Crawford in the spring 1993 couture show,” he says. “I wanted to give a modern take on the 90’s supermodel hair that Cindy had walking down the runway.”

He most definitely nailed the assignment, and here’s a step-by-step breakdown for those wanting to recreate the look for their next big, blowout moment:

1. Starting with freshly washed hair using Nexxus unbreakable care shampoo and conditioner, I took some moisture out of the hair with a towel. I then coated the roots with Nexxus unbreakable care root lift thickening spray and mid lengths to ends with Nexxus volumizing foam mousse.

2. After parting hair into a side part, I blew out the hair using the Dyson Airwrap Hair Multi-Styler with the round volumising brush attachment to give the hair extra volume. I then used the 1.6-inch barrel to create a bouncy curl and set each section with a Velcro roller after, making sure the hair in rollers are positioned away from the face to provide lift and an open face framing shape.

3. When the hair has cooled completely, I then removed each roller starting from bottom, teasing the hair with a tail comb and spraying each back combed section with Nexxus Maxximum Finishing Spray for lift and hold.

4. Using a boar bristle flat brush, I then begin to brush out hair careful not to remove too much of the volume I’ve created with back combing. Smoothing out ends with the Dyson Airwrap Hair Multi-Styler with the soft smoothing brush attachment to polish ends and taming any flyaways with the Dyson Airwrap Coanda smoothing dryer.

5. Once I have her hair in the desired shape, I finished with Nexxus Maxximum Finishing Mist.

As for the rest of the look, celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff went for a clean, fresh feel for Robbie's makeup. Want to recreate that dewy glow? Try Chanel Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Dragée, which Dubroff used to highlight Robbie's cheekbones and eyelids.
